After finishing the first part of the Alchemist's quest (Barbatos) I am trying to enter ruined Broken Valley(BV). Going by foot, I found only gets me a short way before I have to assume dragon form. So here is where the fun starts: a dragon commander soaring around the vicinity can kill me with one blast and seems impervious to my attacks. Furthermore, if I evade by going low, I get poisoned to death somehow. If I evade by flying high, left and right, I veer into all kinds of firepower and/ or dragon-free zones. If I press Q and try to drop to the ground, I die of poison. So :
Am I advised to finish most of the normal quests in the Fjords to build up xp levels before trying the flying fortressess and trainer quests as from the Alchemist, Necromancer, etc.? Or am I approaching BV in the wrong way, i.e., is there some approach or trick I need to know to get on the ground to further the quest in BV.
The walkthrough on Game Banshee site gave me no indication of the difficulty of the entrance to BV; I thought it was a usual trek not an ambush. It had been going so well in the Fjords until this area.
Thanks for your help.

The low lying areas of Broken Valley are covered in a poison fog after you take over the battle tower. There are some old areas above the poison, including some that you could not get to by foot before, as well as new areas from the flying fortresses there now.
In terms of progression, it would be best to wait before going to Broken Valley. If you've finished off the stuff outside on Sentinel Island, and the start of the fjords (mountain path, mine, various caves, High Hall / harbour, etc), the order of the flying fortress from easiest to hardest is Stone (teleporter entrance on the island in the middle of the channel leading to the harbour), Raze (mountain across from the harbour), Broken Valley, Keara (across from Red Hammer tribe area) and then Kali (Rivertown Gorge).
