When I get to wake up myself, no alarmclock, dreaming slowly becomes day dreaming, making my own imagination part of the dream. That's reallly cool, and it helps remembering what I've dreamed. And I keep this state going for quite some time before I actually wake up.
I share the deja-vu experience, I've had things happpen to me a couple of times. When I know for sure it happened only once in reality, but it was something that my subconscious had told me a couple of times before.
I think dreams are a combination, of recent events, a way for the mind to create the links that makes you remember things. Your own creativity and perhaps some premenitions throw in to spice things up. But figuring out what is what part of a dream, well I can't.
The only reacuring elements in my dreams, is the floor falling away from under me, strange thing is my legs actually experience that as well, I always wake up when that happens and my legs feel strange ( Don't know a nice word to explain it, but strange will work). But that element is easily explained. And ofcourse the opposite gender but that's normal.

*No,
I don't dream about farm animals.

*
I don't think animals that dream, dream any differently from us, although the realisation that it ain't real may be a bit weaker, as some dreams make them do weird stuff when waking up.
And about communicating with animals, now that's something to dream about, hoping it's a premenition. But if it's ever going to happen I'm long gone before it does.
