You are quite right WL, many of the strongholds are, to be honest, weak. Look at the ranger stronghold, a cabin!! La de da. The other classes actually get a good sanctuary, a grove that you run, a keep, a planar sphere, a playhouse and then a cabin!! Whats with that!!
(if you havent noticed I think Rangers get screwed)
Only the planar sphere and the keep are of any real interest. The druid grove is kinda cool though.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Rangers get their own cabin, and paladins get.... exactly, their own room! Now THAT is a weak stronghold. I haven't played as cleric yet (yes I have but I've dualled from fighter and by then I already have the fighter stronghold) but I think they only get a room of their own as well (or so I've read). I would pick a cabin over a room any time. :)

I like the thieves' Stronghold - it makes money! :D I got lucky one game - the first time I assigned my thieves, none of them were arrested, so I left them in their assignments and was raking in ~3000 gp a week! :D (Game exploit: The game does not re-calculate the chances of your thieves getting arrested so long as you do not change their assignments.)
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

the mage stronghold is good, but due to an (as far as I know) unpatched bug, it remains a dungeon type as far as resting and romancing is concerned even after you own it.

It is cool to get apprentices and your own golem, (and it looks so stylish....) bt I'd rather have the fighter stronghold: it is the best in terms of quests, and is a good halfway house between Athkatla and the outling regions.

I think that Bard and fighter are the best, simply because there are a lot of events.

Clerics and paladins just get a room, after they have finished doing errands for their temples. Rangers get also just a cabin and defend occassionally the village or the nearby forests. As for bard stronghold, I find it annoying because you have to deal with one problem after another, especially in the begining, before the first play be on stage.

Mage stronghold is not bad since you get an apprentice who's
preparting a few (random, I think) potions for you every 4-5 days. But they're very common potions, and ones that you can buy quite cheap.

IMHO, Thief stronghold is not bad at all, for you can earn some good money; and fighter's is another quite good one for reasons stated by frogus.

Just my opinion.

Cheers
