Valygar problem

Anyone else had a problem backstabbing with katanas when using valygar.

I get a message stating this weapon in unsuitable for backstabbing. 'sup wid 'dat.

btw, I am running BG2:SoA with the most recent official patch and then TDD installed. thanks peoples.

Yeah, Valygars personal Katana has a known bug which makes it "unsuitable for backstabbing". I think you can get a fix for it at Baldurdash or some other such place.

I have no problems with Valigar backstabbing.
He is using Celestial fury and Daystar and is very effective.
I have S.o.A. only.

Valygars personal Katana has a bug - not Valygar himself.

One explanation I've heard for this states it isn't a bug. Backstabbing only works with melee weapoins usuable by thieves. Even though a katana as such can be used by thieves, the Corthala Family Blade cannot (only by Valygar (until UAI, that is)). The same should explain why the Staff of the Magi can't be used for backstabbing when other staves can (only ususable by Mages).

I agree with the staff of the magi, yet it seems very unlikely that Valygar isn't supposed to backstab with his own blade - as he's a stalker that can backstab...so I think that it actually a is bug.

thanks. I don't know which one of you is correct but the fact remains that the corthala family blade cannot be used as a backstabbing weapon. I now have celestial fury so the backstabbing is not an issue anymore.

actually, i agree on a stalker's personnal weapon being able to backstab. the corthala blade is actually an effective mage - disrupter, because it bleeds the victim.

there's a Baldurash patch that fixes the bug, too
