Paladin/Monk Soloing

Post by Skuld »

The Paladin/Monk multiclass is working great. Here's how I went about it. Start out as a Paladin crash Int and set everything else to 14. I'm assuming you know to use a Half-Elf. Then muscle through the Dungeons keeping a light load and using Whitened Ring Armor as the heaviest. I think this is one of the better armors in the game. Then once you get the Naga's Kiss, start adding Monk.

And if you're not gonna use a Paladin keep in mind what you get with a Paladin.Cha bonus to saves, ability to use Clerical items, a few basic spells the most important being Bless, Turn Undead(crucial with a solo character), a few Fighter feats and the ability to use all weapon types(which you're gonna want when you get the Helm Cleaver, Deathspike, Daemon Sword...). The only thing I sincerely miss right now in this character is Cleave, but I can live without.

I know about the Paladin's abilities and i consider it the best class in the game, but i have never tried out the Monk class. My consern is that is it worth it to multi him with a monk since a monk gets some bonuses to AC if does not wear any armour. Is it as good as wearing a nice armour?

Before I added Monk and had a straight Paladin My AC was 26(i think), but now my AC is 22. I now have 166 HP now, so the only time i have a problem is in open area battles with multiple Orog Gaurdsman, Skeleton Lords, or Arracats. The first two cause their AC's are so high, and the Arracats cause they hit for so much damage. If you've soloed before you know it's tough in the beginning, but once you get going the game moves pretty fast. And levels come awfully quickly keeping the game interesting. After starting this solo game I don't know how anyone could make it through the dungeons without going insane, including myself.

I'm going with the Paladin/Monk as well. Mine is at 16/5, I'm in the second cellar, have cleared out just about everything else possible up to that point, haven't skipped any fights and generally am having an easy time of it. Lack of cleave is a bit of a pain, but a hyped up pre-fight routine of potions of speed, bull's strength, and the bless, protection from evil combo let me blow through Greyanna and her goons in no time flat. I used one potion of full healing for the whole battle (I'm wielding the deathspike). I'm going to wait for a couple more monk levels before I ditch the armor, as my AC is around 29. I don't foresee much in the way of problems, although I stopped playing last night when the program dumped me out into windows for the third time in 5 minutes. When I regain my patience, I'll start again.

:) Sounds like challenging then.
