best weapons
I played baldur's gate 1 over a year ago, and I fancy having a go agen. Out of interest I cant remember the best weapons were (excluding drizzt's weapons)???? I remember a nice long sword and a spider sword but not much else....
Aside from Drizzt's Scimitars I'd say the best one I've come across so far is Greywolf's sword. It's a Longsword +2, +1 Cold Damage, weight 3, speed factor 3. I'm not about to challenge Drizzt to a fight so I'll settle with this one.

Personally, it just seems wrong to pickpocket Drizzt, or kill him. They may be the best weapons, but it just wont do for my paladin.
Anyway, best weapons...
"Varcona", Longsword +2, +1 Cold
Very nice. Belongs in every inventory.
"Spider's Bane" Two-Handed Sword +2, Free Action
Also one of the very best around. My Paladin's personal sword.
"Ashideena" Warhammer +2, +1 Electrical
A must for any cleric.
"Eagle Bow" Short Bow +2
Not among the best in the game, if only because it's used mainly for thives and their THAC0 sucks. Still, it's what takes up Imoen's lone weapon slot.
"Dead Shot" Long Bow +3 Hit, +2 Damage
Armed with this and the bracers of archery, Kivan (or Coran, but I like Kivan better) becomes the badest sniper around. Almost garanteed a hit, you just point them at others and they die.
"Dagger of Venom" Dagger +2, Poison
Hah, what it lacks for in sheer power it makes up with poison and it's 0 speed. This is a true mage killer, whacks them before they can get the spell out, then the poison disrupts any further spells.
Well, those are the best weapons in the game, IMO. There's a few other +2 weapons, and even +3's out there. But these are still the best.

For somewhat earlier in the game, the "long bow of markmanship " is quite nice. It has a +3 thaco, and Kivan does some significant damage with it.

Dagger of Venom +2. A dagger does 2 points less damage than a sword, on average, but this thing will do 20 poison damage after even a single hit!

When you say beating, do you mean in battle? or successfully pickpocketing? I had Garrick, a level 2 bard, pick pocket successfully on the first attempt. I had saved first in case Drizzt became hostile...

I tried it with my Bard as lvl 7 multiple times on different ocassions and it always said he's got nothing.
Where are you pickpocketing him? on the part of the map where he asks your aid to defeat gnolls? AR4200....

that happened to me during my first run through the game....
*scratches head and wonders if an inability to find the ring of wizardry is linked to Drizzt not having any valid items*

If you have Tales of the Sword Coast installed, I'd have to say Flame Tongue (long sword) is a very nice sword (especially against undead). Furthermore, you can find a nice twohanded sword+3 called the World's Edge, which lights up in the dark.

Yes it was in AR4200 and I too am now thinking that Drizzt having no valid items to PP is linked to the Ring of Wizardry.
What is this about drizzt having no items, and the ring of wizarddry.
Could domeone explain?
