Sudden Tech Problems ?!

Post by Nagroth »

I suddenly have problems with the game. BG2 was running quite fine, but ever since I saved Viconia from vampirism, I have sort of rhythmic lags in the game. Even if I just stand around (no fancy items like cloak of reflection or other graphic- intense stuff), the pendulum of the clock does not run smoothly. The problem in my case seems to be savegame-related because if I load another, earlier savegame, the game runs as before. I tried switching from 3D to 2D and vice versa, fiddled with the 16bit/32bit toggle, no change. Does anybody know how to solve this ? I don´t wanna replay the entire Final Bodhi battle !
My system :
P2 400 MHz
128 MB RAM
32 MB TNT2 Graphics Adapter

Any suggestions ?

No XP, plain simple Win 98. Why should defragging the hard drive help if the problem seems to be save-game related ? If I reload an older savegame, I don´t have any problems !
I´ll try anyway, though :)

I would suggest Defragmenting probably wont solve this problem. @ Nagroth i assume that you have installed the latest patch?

I don´t think so, I didn´t update since I installed TOB-German Version. I have just never encountered that problem before !

If a file is 'way down the chain of access, it could take a long time for an application to reach it--which might account for the earlier saves loading swiftly, since they (theoretically) could be a lot "closer." As a rule, Defragment Regularly is a good idea. ;)

true, that would account for long loading times but once it is loaded, the game should progress as usual, shouldn´t it ? Anyway, I´ll try defragging, though I don´t think it´ll help. Thanks anyway.

@Fable i am of the school of thought that degfrags can cause HD crashes, but that is my personal expereince.

If it is a specific issue then it might be worth checking the known issues of Biowares site.

Try emptying out your cache folder as well, although it might be worth creating a back up of this file when you are doing it. Plus you will loose any items you placed on the floor or in any storage cases since the game hasn't got a log of them anymore.
