Release date

Post by fable »

I've seen a target release date of end-of-March. Betas are now circulating to a very specific few in the media.

Oddly enough, it's also timing out to the release of Might and Magic IX. Both games will be shortly followed by Dungeon Siege, and IWD 2. Talk about a heavy month. :D

From what I have seen. I am not too impressed with Morrowwind, I think they should wait and release it in August or September.

Playable late betas are available to reviewers, now. The target date is still in effect. :)

And I'm champing at the bit :D
Fable since you have connections :D Do you know anything about the dungeon size. I'd read in an interview that the designers wanted to cut down on those huge similar looking dungeons, and were going to make the average one explorable in less time. Do you know if thats still in effect or am I going to have to find out for myself :D

Yes I can hardly wait for it too!
The only thing is, from all those previews that I read, I am not sure if I will be able to play it. My computer is only P3 600mb with 128mb RAM and I do not have Geforce3. I certainly hope they will optimize the game so that people like me can play it! :)

Being the kinda ethical guy I am, I turned down the opportunity to receive a late beta, because I didn't have a venue for a review. Now, I'm beginning to wonder whether ethics aren't overrated. ;)

From everything I've heard with the developers, however (their main office is actually about 90 minutes away from me), it's not so much a case of sizing down as filling up. Does that make sense? In other words, instead of having endless cities that are alike, under the occasionally changing skins, there will be a good number of cities, each with distinct features. This goes for dungeons, as well. Daggerfall had actually had unique dungeons--those were the ones required for the main plot; but the majority of the dungeons simply used "building blocks" arranged randomly when they were first entered. Dungeons in Morrowind will remain quite large, and in some cases, as large as in Daggerfall, but each will be unique. So the challenges will differ from dungeon to dungeon.

Or as a mage once said, nodding his head knowingly, "Size isn't everything." ;)

Just to add some info..

Release date is spring 2002...hopefully that means late april or in may. The devs are crunching bugs for their life right now and with XBox they need a reliable product!

Dungeons are all handcrafted this time, as everything else in this HUGE gameworld. I read someplace there are 300 dungeons and they will take anything from 15 minutes to an hr to complete. So there will be enough for us all to do in that aspect, I believe.

With 30 towns and a myriad of sidequests too, we will have a game that lasts for 100's of hrs without even touching the Main Quest :)

cheers,
gozpel

From what I've heard, release should been within April. It's simply bug-squashing that's taking time, now. Of course, in a game this size, there's quite a lot to look at. I recall the vast number of bugs in Daggerfall's initial release, despite their best attempts to kill the bugs beforehand.

Why late May? If everything else is ready to go, they could get gold code, manufacture slap product into the boxes, and have it shipped to distributors within 10 days. I saw it happen with M&M IX.

The devs never said april, may or any other month for that matter. Their "release-date" is and always was Spring 2002...the so called release dates we find here and there are nothing but speculations from sites as EB and Gonegold.

But on the elderscrolls forum, they say this now:
"When is Morrowind coming out?
The official release date is May of this year. We have not announced a more specific date than this. We plan to release the PC and Xbox versions simultaneously."

The bugcrushing is very important, they cannot deliver a game with gamestopping bugs, because there is no way to patch it on XBox.

The stores expect it on May 1st. I've also gotten inside word that the game will be gold very, very soon.

Fable, don't get angry or testy... sorry I didn't see u're post.

Honestly I had never been to Morrowind's website till today when a friend told me about it going gold. I had heard about it but just never saw what it will look like till today.

I'm patiently waiting for Shadowbane myself but it's not going to be out till September if it even makes it out by then

Sorry to step on u're post didn't mean to at all :p

I'm not upset! Didn't you see the grin and wink behind my message? :D If I were upset, I'd have thrown a Kaypro 2 at you. Those things make fine anchors, you know. ;)
