Demogorgon and the Deck of many things

Post by Delita »

First thing is the Deck. I think I drew a card that silenced my main character (Cavalier) when I was playing against the guy that had the Deck.

It won't come off! I haven't tried vocalize yet because I don't have a scroll of it yet (Didn't get a chance to goto town)

One crappy thing besides the fact I can't cast priest spells anymore OR use my fighter abilities is not being able to talk to Cespenar to upgrade all of my stuff! He will only talk to my main character.

DemoGorgon... Okay Lower Resistance is NOT working. I've tried casting Warding Whip, Ruby Ray, Spell Strike, Breach, Secret Word, Pierce Magic and Pierce Shield. It says his protections were removed.

I cast Lower Resistance (lvl 19 Jan and lvl 20ish Imoen)
I've casted it one by one AND used Spell Trigger, casting three.

After the cast, it doesn't mention ANYTHING about resistances or spell ineffectives.

I cast magic missile to test it out. Magic Resistant. None hit him.

Then I got pissed off and threw 20 clouds there and sat there. It hardly hit him. So I went down and casted Lower Resistance and all of the spell protection killers and he still takes no damage. Then while my computer's freezing up like crap, all of my guys die from all of the damn summoned monsters.

***Minor Spoilers***

Have you tried a remove curse? IIRC that's how to get rid of silence from the deck.

I found that the best way to take out Demogorgon was to use brute strength. I didn't really worry about trying to use spells to hurt him, I just used my spell casters to summon up creatures to hold off his minions. I sent in my tanks totally buffed and kept hitting 'till he stopped moving :) I've been through TOB 4 times now, I found this to be the easiest way to dispose of him.
I killed a rabid rabbit! I'm experienced now!

also try spell that totally bypass magic resistance...dragon breath....

have your support crew fire off a trigger volley of lower resist, stack dooms and malisons and abu dahzim in a chain contingency, and fill up slots with dragon breath, and inc acuity. have main fighters at bottom of stair cast, just before stepping on spawn trigger, and pause the game. have every mage cast inc acuity and have fighters trigger demogorgon. hit with massive volley of lower resist and malisons, go over 3!!! try around 6 or so, and while fighters are attacking with whirlwinds try multiple abu dahzims and dragon breaths. empty your slots.

bolt of glory and earth quake also largely ignores magic resist...

my main philosophy is ito unload your best stuff first and fast, and use lower level spells for mop up.

a Dragon's Breath, Bolt of Glory and Ring of the Ram combo can take him out if you get lucky rolls....

A bunch of Spike Traps also do in the Demogorgon quite nicely. :D
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Demogorgon?

SLLLLLLAAAAAAACKKKKKK!!!!

I'm playing on Core Rules, I just summoned a Deva, and Elemental Summon (Earth Guy came up in my case), and 3 Hakershar (Spelling?)

Then cast Dragon Breath as I rushed in there with my summons. Imoen and Aerie stayed the hell back, and my Four Fighters

Minsc
My Pally
Keldorn
Saevork

All hasted hacked the crap outta the thing. No reloads or nothing.

Kinda dissapointing, but easiest 100K Exp Per Party member I ever made.

The Haekshars died (Again Spelling?)
The Deva took all the spells and hits and STILL lived (Nice AI scripting on those things I SWEAR!)

Equipment wise, since weapons were the only major influence on this fight,

All four fighters with Boots of Speed

Paladin with Equalizer Or was it Foebane +5 can't remember what he had on.

Minsc with THE Wave

Saverok with Soul Reaver +4

And Keldorn with Casmy..Whatever, that Holy Swd.

always forget ring of ram, totally does damage only, and goes thru anything but invisibility..

The easy way to kill demo is after rushing back in to whack him, you have jan memorize many project imeges, or simmie should work, and send image down to center of the altar, and drop about 11 spike traps....

oh the map only supports 7?

wrong!!! a image or simmy will not trigger creature spawn, and will totally bypass traps per map limits. send in weakest char to trigger demo, and watch it die before it says much...

jan is by far teh best thief in game, since you lose yoshimo in soa....

but I am taking care of that....

new game, is hacked to bits...

kensai deathbringer sorceror main pc
totemic druid fighter jahiera

true multiclass thief mage nalia
assassin mage dual immie, high level, around 20 or so, to get use any item and few traps...
archer or paladin mazzie...dont know yet...

ok, so i dont like jan at all!!!
even when I was prasing his power gaming abilityies, I was irritated at the little git, I wanted him dead so much...

Very true, nevertheless the result can be a little disappointing. I once seriously spike trapped him (five traps I guess) and he was dead instantly upon appearing. He went straight from his welcome speech to "this cannot be" and that was it. So for fun's sake I'd suggest to use only one or two spike traps to soften him up a bit.

With ToB installed, there are four. The two from BG2 plus the ones from Illasera and the ones you can buy.

I've found five - two from SoA, one from Illasera, and 2 others from ToB merchants. I understand you can find a 6th pair if you side with Bodhi.

Yes, I think you buy them in Saradush AND at the other merchant too, but I didn't check old savegames so I wasn't sure about the fifth one. There's also the grandmaster armor and the amulet of Cheetah speed, so having a fast party is never a problem in ToB.

Btw, I tried if the amulet would further increase the speed of a character with BoS, but it didn't look like that to me. Does anybody know if it's cummulative or not?

I know the amulet is slower than the boots. I don't think it's cumulative.

My cavalier who some reason seems to be moving quite slow with her boots of speed.

The way to get a sixth pair it to import from BG and drop all your items before being knocked out - that way I got boots of speed, arrows of detonation etc from the start.

The easiest way I found to knock out Demorgorgen is to equip a want of cloudkill and as many incindary cloud scrolls in your quick slots and then cast similcrum - use him to cast all the cloudkill spells etc and demorgorgen does dies - it just takes time as magic resistence can't block out all damage

If I remember correctly, doesn't the journal of Elmonster at Balurdash mention that Demogorgon is immune to Lower Resistance? I think he had to use pierce shield...
