Multi vs Single play?
Multi vs Single play?
I am new the Baldur's Gate, and have a question about the multi-player game. I understand if I play in multi-player mode, I can custom create my entire party, correct? This sounds like a great thing to me, but what are the downpoints to doing so? Will I be missing out on a lot of the storyline/quests etc? Will I have access to the better items in the game? And what about strongholds? Can I still quest for them? I guess basically I am trying to find out which way is the best playing experience, and most fun. I dont intend on playing with other players online, I would simply set up a lan game.
Thanks,

first time through, play single player. You will not miss very many quests doing multiplayer, but in BG2 the best thing is the involving dialogues and realistic relationships and interesting interactions between characters (and romance
. You will miss out on a lot of the initial appeal playing multiplayer, so don't..also, making a custom party sure sounds fun, but if you are not experienced with RPGs you will not find it any easier with chars you created yourself. And you'll never meet Minsc's hamster.
after you've played through once, twice or three times and are not gonna be excited by the story anymore, then have a go at multiplayer...

Well If this was me the first time playing I would just make the one PC and have other NPC join your party I think you will get a better feel for the game and be a little more fun for you. There is some rather intresting reaction you can get from other NPC that react with each other. Every NPC has some kind of side quest to do.
I can only comment on what it is like to play with a party. I have never created my own party. I like having the other NPC along for the ride.
And welcome to the board.

Even in single player, there are so many NPC to join, so you can enjoy their interaction/quest more. There are so many ways to play this game but like the others, choose core rules single players.
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.
In a "single multiplayer" game, to avoid load times just copy the
savegame in the SAVE folder.
It will be loaded as a single game, but all you chars will remain.
Anyway taking the NPCs is much better, I agree with the others...

I agree with Frogus: play the game in singleplayer mode first. I'm currently playing BGII with my custom three-member party and I enjoy the difference more (especially because of their BGI stats). Plus, it's much easier to nòt include NPC's when you played the game once already. On the other hand, when playing single player, you should consider saving 2 copies of your character from the start (one of which you shouldn't change any more for later use in MP game): I can imagine it's difficult to play a custom party the second time around with one member who's at an incredibly high level, while the others are "fresh" to BGII.
