Solaufein's Revenge Spiders
I have recently downloaded the Solaufein romance patch, and have reached the part where Solaufein's nightmare of a revenge spider attack comes true (seems to happen when sleeping in the outdoors only)......
Every time I have attempted this battle my pc has snuffed it. Has anyone else survived this encounter ? If so I would appreciate any suggestions....I could probably import in 6 rings of free action if I really wanted to, but I would prefer not to resort to that.......

The Revenge Spiders tend to go after the character with the worst armor class. Each hit from one of them drain 5 points of strength for ~60 seconds, iirc.
A tactic I use is:
Drink invisibility potions as soon as they arrive s that everyone is invisible and you can set everything up).
Send a hasted & 'free actioned' character with a bad AC as a sacrificial lamb to draw the spiders' attention.
Run the above character around with the other characters kill the spiders with ranged weapons (concentrate on one spider at a time).
Give the 'lamb' a strength booster (potion, belt) and Arbane's Sword, so he/she can take a few hits. If possible have the 'lamb' cast spells like protection from magic weapons, mantle, etc. as the revenge spider attack is considered to be a +1 weapon.

@Mr. Fibble, I can't recall the the number, but I seem to recall that I downloaded the latest version
@Blucher, thanks for the suggestions, I will try them out
I may also see if protection from evil, 10 radius helps.
or maybe I'll even buy a mass invisibility spell, which I seem to recall allows for those under its effects to attack....
I tried laying 8 traps (4 of them spiked snares)...that did absolutely nothing

Silly question, where can I find this patch?
I have just started a game with a kensai sorc deathbringer beholder with a female protagonist (Thanks User!). Can't bear to even think about romancing Anowhine. Solaufein sounds good.
TIA!

He actually joins the group, and in addition to engaging in lengthy philosophical / poetical discussions with the PC he also interacts with the other party members. While I was playing yesterday, he had an extended conversation with Aerie about dreams and reality. Aerie stammered through most it, which was rather amusing to watch.Originally posted by Easter bunny
how is this romance going, is solaufein walking with the group like one of this blue-circle-sideshow-guys, or does he join your group or what?
Also, when I loaded up an experimental ToB game, I noticed that you have the option of summoning him to your pocket plane along with all the other NPCS, and when you do so it appears that he begins to initiate romance dialogue, despite the lack of SoA history.
So far I like him, because I find the dialogues genuinely interesting, and at least as complex, if not more so, as those that occur if you are "romancing" Jaheira. Further, while he seems to spend much time contemplating the evils of Drow nature and wondering if he should not have tried to effect some positive change within Drow society, he does not seem to require that the PC holds his hand as he wrestles with his internal angst. Rather, he possesses strength of character, and there appears to be a fair amount of equilibrium and mutual respect in the relationship.
Finally, Solaufein is a good all round NPC. He is a fighter/mage with a strength of 18/21, while his intelligence and dexterity are 18. His constitution of 10 is rather low, but that is easily remedied by the girdle of fortitude.
You do not have to romance Solaufein in order for him to join your party either.

I am not that far along in the romance, so most of what I can tell you is posted above.Originally posted by Baldursgate Fan
@Easter Bunny
I just got out of Irenicus' prison and am rushing to the Underworld City to look for Soulafien.
@Dragon
Any spoilers for Easter?
But just so you know, you set the stage for him joining your party when you tell him that you do not intend to kill him as Phaere has requested. When you choose the option which asks him to accompany you he will confess a number of his secrets (if you are completely honest with him), and then when you are set to leave the Drow City for the last time he teleports in front of you and asks to join.

Just giving my opinion on him...
I downloaded this, but I'm not doing the romance. I personally thought his stats were way too high, and he was way too powerful, so I just changed him to a straight fighter with Shadowkeeper and lowered his stats somewhat. But he is a good NPC.

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
If you think that Sola is strong, you have not yet encountered
(as an enemy) a certain kensai/mage who comes with the same

Indeed....I think I encountered her yesterday....had Sola been weaker I would never have survived the battle...as it was it took numerous attempts and the use of many potions to make it through. I had him wearing the girdle of fortitude and, through the virtue of various ac modifiers, he was at -14......yet the fight was still MUCH more challenging than most....I seriously thought I would have to abandon that particular game.
IMHO this battle rivals the one with Kangaxx in terms of sheer difficulty...
