Canadian Media blames the US...

Post by Nightmare »

Jeez...

Yesterday, 4 Canadian troops were killed by a bomb dropped by a US plane during a training exercise. Alright, I was a really bad pilot error, but it was a mistake, and friendly fire happens all the time in a war zone. But the Canadian Media are pointing their finger at the US and blaming them. The media is so stupid sometimes. All the newspaper titles were "US bomb kills 4 Canadian Troops". :( Its so stupid. The last thing the media should be doing. (Even though I know that the media loves these things  )

The more shocking the article, the more sales the newscorps would be hoping for.

I have to agree with Tamerlane. :(
As Gaxx_Firkraag said it will happen, sadly this is the cost of war. No matter how smart the bomb is, it will be started by a human and humans are not fail proof.

Anyone have the details on how the (?Not Evil Forces) are structured?

(I don't believe the bomb was a smart bomb, I was just stating my opinion of them)

Well, Gaxx, keep in mind it was an American bomb. Also, from what I understand, it was the Canadian troops who were doing trainign drills. The most likely answer to this problem was a miscommunication to the US pilot.

There's also a fair bit of ill-will that the US has built up in Canada, especially over the last year, and Bush's attempts to direct the flow of lumber across the border. Threatened trade sanctions from the US haven't sweetened the Canadian tempers any.

sorry, i just couldn't pass up this bit of spam

Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?
No, blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their beady little eyes
And flappin heads so full of lies
Blame Canada
blame canada
We need to form a full assault
It's Canadas fault!
Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to **** myself!
Well, blame Canada
Blame Canada
It seems that everythings gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
There not even a real country anyway
My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer it's true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue
Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Heck no!
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their hockey hubbabaloo
And that ***** Anne Murray too
Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
The smut we must stop
The trash we must smash
Laughter and fun
must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

I think George Dub Bush wants the lumber to help build homes for all the snobacks here??But it is a warzone the U S pilot made a mistake...a dumb one but a mmistake none the less...so all we can hope for is that our superpower neighbor to the north does'nt attack over it.....

 "Sources" say that the US pilot was ordered not to fire, but after seeing tracer fire (from the training exercise) he decided to drop anyway. Shows (if its true) that he was a little trigger-happy.

The one thing that really pissed me off today was on the front page of the Toronto Star was : "Troops killed by US 'Friendly Fire'"! With the "friendly fire" in quotations! As though the Americans actually wanted to kill our soldiers!

I suspect they called it "friendly fire" because they assumed their audience wouldn't automatically recognize the term. Unfortunately, today's media assumes the public has a 5th grade literacy rating. More unfortunately still, they are usually correct.

@Nael: Could you edit your last post. As a Canadian, it's a little concerning and a bit frustrating to see that in a matter that is as important, and unstable as this one.

Well, pulling out my big book of conspiracies, I have a feeling that this is a combined coverup between the Allied forces. Considering the kill/death ratio, at the moment, is 6:50, it is a tad concerning. We have killed six of them, in return we have had fifty killed by friendly fire. Now, those odds are too high, even for a hotzone of warfare. I think that it may be that Al Queda members have captured troops, and killed them, and this whole friendly fire thing is a cover up to avoid embaressment on a global level because of the inability to finish a job they claimed would be done by Novemeber last year.

@Gaxx: It might be a mistake, but it is not something you should complain about Canada. You said the Canadian media was out of order, but how do you know the US media is more accurate than Canadians? These incident happen far too often, involving the US armed forces everywhere (the Chinese embassy and a Japanese fishing boat incidents, for example), though I am well aware the US provides so many forces all over the world.

Well, technically, it was an American Bomb that killed 4 canadians. Theres really no way around that...
However, I believe that the pilot BELIEVED he was engaging enemy forces. He was ordered to hold fire unless acting directly in self defense.
I can't help but think our boys were being idiots and taking pot shots at the F-16...
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Well, his thoughts are in place here. Our media is primarly controlled by a man named Conrad Black (I doubnt many non-Canadians heard about him, maybe Fable though). The man is a real prick. He is a racist, and a biggot, and I'm pretty sure he is sexist too. He is ruthless when this sort of thing happens, would undoubtedly twist or over exaggerate the facts.

Conrad and Barbara Black are just another pair of reasons why large communications conglomerates run by single individuals should never be allowed. He has far too much power, IMO, and no sense of responsibility.

Sounds rather familiar...

Honestly, there's no media inpartial to anything in the whole world. BBC is relatively good, yet they keep getting sticks all the time. As for the newspapers, well, I've never come across a single newspaper which is as fair as BBC. I'm quite sure the US media is no better either.

You should hear my dad rant about society, Bush, the American gouvernment, etc. ;)

@Minvera, I agree completely. The media corperations believe they are un-biased, yet they are clearly not, and many people know this.

I agree with most of the people here. But here's one more fact about Americans and friendly fire:

In Afhganistan, they've hit civie targets with smart bombs. I'm not sure if it was taliban propaganda, but i think they hit a red cross center too.

In the gulf war, they lost more people to friendly fire, in 1 attack, than they did to enemy fire in the whole war.

Also, it's not just the lumber. The americans want our power too. Personally, i'd rather keep the lights, thanks.

I find alot of this stuff just annoying, however. The bombs were all cases of pilot error, but i find it strange that an air superiorety (last i checked) F-16 would be carrying 225 kg bombs. Might just be my mistake, though, as the F-14 and F-15 are Fighters, but the F/A-18 (and CF/A-18 ) is fighter/attack. i know that's what the F and all that stands for, but what about F-16? why would a fighter be carrying bombs? wouldn't that make it F/A?

But, just to conclude, alot of news is just propaganda. it's sometimes hard to find the truth. But it's there.

I am not sure about this, IIRC about 45% of the total US military deaths were due to allied 'friendly fire' in the Gulf war.
