Chain Contingency - most powerful spell???

Post by RadinRoldan »

I would be the first to admit that I haven't tested all the possible combinations of spells out there, but I am amazed at the power of Chain Contingency.

I was able to defeat Yaga-Shura almost too easily by casting the spell when he was charging my mage. The spell list pops up instantly, I select target nearest enemy on sight and then select my 3 8th level spells - in this case I chose Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting. Killed him and a few Lt's and soldiers immediately.

You don't even have to have the spell previously cast as the casting time is so quick. This way you can always cast this for immediate impact and have it target a Boss type.

Now that's some firepower.

Any other high-level favorite combinations?
Better a diamond with a flaw then a pebble without one.

I banned myself from using Power Word Kill. :)

Among summon spells, I like Planetars, Hakeashars, Wizard Eye and M Sword.

Other favourite high level spells (besides those that you have named) are Dragon's Breath, Improved Alacrity and Simulcram.

Most difficult battles can be won by putting 3 M swords in to chain contigency. When the battle starts the swords get summoned and because they are immune to almost everything, they rarely die.

I think commet is underrated, does good damage and half of it is blunt and as such hard to resist and its stun / knock back effect is much more powerfull than dragons breathe

Everyone seems to have forgoten timestop. Great spell, except for the handful of bosses who are imunne to it.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

Am I the only one who uses contingencies for defence?!!
As it was normal in PnP...

It's too damn fun...
You are already immune to normal weapons.
Just set Prot. from Magical Weapons, Prot. from Magical Energy, and Mirror Image, and put Mislead in the normal contingency.

-Weapons cannot hurt you (not even with elemental damage and such)
-Area spells will have no effect
-You cannot be targeted by any other kind of spell as you're Improved Invisibile...

No more pre-battle buffing and such, if a battle turns bad, you gain the necessary time to recover!!!

This is the ultimate spell line up. First I cast that spell (cant remember what its called) which allows you to cast spells continuoslly without any breaks in between, (Plus you must have a very low casting time) then cast time stop, then comet, then dragons breath then have spell sequencers ready, cast them then you should still have time to cast off whateva u want. Doing this should kill off any minons instantly and badly injure the boss.

Improved alacrity is the single most unbalancing spell in the entire game.. it really is rediculous

With the right triggers ect a mage can lower somones mr by 90% then lower there saving throws by 4 then hit them with about 3 or 4 abi dhalzims or comets or dragons breathes.. or about 4 fingers of death

Robe of vecna compounds with this unbalancing spell, try instead something like 9 abi's or fingers of death in a matter of seconds

Chain contingency is another one of these unbalancing skills, it should not have been able to support offensive spells as is to overpowered as a trigger.. think of it as compared to any other lvl 9 spell

Red dragons beathe, the highest dmg single spell in the game I belelive.. 20 d10 as opposed to Abi dhalzims 20 d8

A chain contingency spell can store three abi dhalzims for 60 d8 dmg it far outstrips any other lvl 9 spell for dmg / cast time

@Devils_Advocate:
This is exactly MY point, too.
A defensive contingency gives you the time to cast Time Stop
and Improved Alacrity, in any moment, even if you are ambushed
by enemies!
Don't need to know that a battle will be hard and prepare
myself, just go on and see!

@gnome: so mages are powerful, now? :)
