Daystar

Post by Troll Slayer »

Daystar is +4 vs undead, and +2 otherwise. However, it always counts as a +2 in terms of what it can hit. This means it cannot kill kagnexx as he takes a +4 weapon or better to hit. I was thinking about hacking daystar to count as a +4 weapon in terms of what it can hit against undead only, but leave it +2 versus all other creatures. My question is if daystar was actually meant to be always a +2 in terms of what it can hit? Or is this a small bug? If it is a bug, I am going to fix it.

It's not a bug. Daystar is only a +2 weapon. It gives a +4 bonus on damage and an additional 1d6 points of damage per level of caster against evil creatures, but you can´t hit creatures that need a weapon +4 or better. Kangaax requires +4 or higher to hit.

Damm, thanks for the info. I was really wishing it was a bug. Finding a sword that counts as a +4 to hit against undead that early in the game would be sweet, although uber. I guess I will have to take him down the old fashioned way.

No you can't - that's another sword that only does an extra +1 Fire Damage.

you can buy the staff of rhyn at adventurers mart, +4..
I beleive its impossible to improve a weapons to hit bonus against certain creatures.. it is what it is against everything, although there can still be thaco bonus' ect

I dont think daystar does an extra d6 per caster lvl to evil
It does double dmg to undead and can cast sunray which does 3d6 +1d6 per caster lvl to undead but I think thats it

The only weapons that can hurt kangaxx are
Flametongue
Warblade
Carsomyr
Staff of the woodlands
Staff of rhyn
Staff of the magi
Staff of power
Soul reaver
Cutthroat
Crom faeyr
Dragons breathe
Blackmist
Spear of withering
Wave
Sling of everrard
Melfs minute meteors
Vorpal sword (25% chance of kill save vs death)
Mace of disuption +2 (+4 dmg to undead)
Phantom blade (+10 dmg to undead)
Defender +5

I beleive thats a comprehensive list. Considering the ease with which one can be protected from imrpisonment (staff o d magi spell trap, prot from undead, prot from magic, invisibility, spell immunity, enrage) and the fact that there really are alot of weapons that can kill the goon, he isnt much trouble

On the subject of mr demi lich... can he be mazed? If he can be mazed you could easily trap his original form maze him and then lay more traps.. dunno if he can be mazed though

Although you get it later in the game, the Bow of Gesan also works against Kangaxx (demi-lich).
when I did that battle I had my two main tanks up close to him, but it was Mazzy firing from the back who actually made the kill.

Mace of disuption +2 (+4 dmg to undead)
you seem to contradict yourself there. If the Mace of Disruption is a +2 weapon, then it is a +2 weapon and cant hit the lich despite doing extra damage to undead. Clarification?

I'm pretty sure gnomethingy hasn't taken part in the creation of the game. Some things you'll just have to accept.

It would be inconsistant within the game rules for the Mace of Disruption to hit because of its +4 to undead bonus and not Daystar. Someone needs to test it unless he (gnomethingy) meant something else, in which case, im meerly asking for clarification because I didnt understand.

As I said, there are some things you'll just have to accept. The MoD will hit him while Daystar won't. Another "inconsistancy" with the game rules are enemy mages being able to continue casting spells after taking damage.

Mace of Disruption will hit him alright, I guess because it is made for killing undead. And besides, if you get lucky, you only have to hit him once with it. :D

Hi everyone,

I just had to register and jump in on this topic....I have not fought Kangaxx yet, but I do have Daystar.....

As I am looking at the stats on Daystar it says this:

----

THACO: +2, +4 vs. evil creatures
DAMAGE: 1D8+2 +4 vs. evil creatures, does double damage against undead

Special Ability: Sunray
Damage: 3D6
Undead: an additional 1D6 points of damage per level of the caster.
Range: 20ft
Area: 20ft radius

----

From looking at this, it seems to me, presuming that Kangaxx is evil (+4 THACO vs. evil), that the Daystar should be able to hit him....Perhaps Kangaxx is not evil? Or, perhaps this is an inconsistency between the equipment description and the actual game implementation?

I'll take you guys' word for it since I am still fairly new to SoA, but this does seem like an inconsistency to me.....

Potentially huge spoiler follows.

Here's an interesting fact on the MoD: It's actually enchanted to hit as a +5 weapon! That means it can be used against mages using Absolute Immunity and both Mantle spells.

Doesn't really make sense, but at a guess I'd say it was done that was so it could be used on any undead, including everyones favourite floating skull.

@ Khazad, welcome to GB

thats why summon deva is not so sucky when you have a mage that can summon planetars...

devas have a much smaller spell selection, but the important one, globe of blades in there, and thats the sepll my quest summons use the most of, you summon a deva or planetar and have them cast globe, and when you send in tword masses of enemy, a greater malison and most of the ones surrounding your summons will die from damage radius...

but the deva comes equipped with mace of disruption +2!!! think serious anti undead summons...

paladins get as a innate...lovely, does not use up precious spell slots for clerics...

save for storm of vengence, (area effect poison, will stop spell casting cold!!!)
implosion, not so hot, resisted, but ok with lower resit spells by mages, and best of all, earthquake!!!

aerie, when she gets high enoguh to get triple earthquake, becomes a serious dragon killer in one spell...

one chain, with triple earthquake, have main tank with ring of free action, will take out most dragons solo...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

This is very simple, it also goes out to all the others posts on daystar ect

The Term as taken from the d&d rules "hit" actually means, hit for damage ie wack a skeleton with mod and inflict its base dmg of 1d6+3 +str and the special +4 dmg to undead

However when striking the demi lich the weapon does not inflict its base dmg, though it still "hits" and therefore any special abilities that require it to hit an enemy still take effect in other words +4 to undead and this is why the mod can harm mr lich

The problem with daystar is that it does double dmg against undead, double it base dmg and giving that its + to hit is insufficent to inflict its base dmg apon the demi lich so nothing get doubled and no dmg is inflicted

Remember daystar is a +2 sword in ragards to what it can damage with a THACO bonus (not an enchantment bonus) of +4 vs evil creatures...

None of this means the lich doesnt take a whooping from sunray.. so theres still a damn good reason to bring daystar along when going to face him

By the way, on the subject of mod going through absolute imunity.. absolute imunity protects against +5 and better so the only weapons that cut through are
Carsomyr +6
Ravager +6
Staff of the ram +6

Nice explanation re mod and daystar.

Too bad the weapons above are only available/upgraded in ToB.

Unless, <AHEM>, Shadow Keeper, <COUGH> comes in.

Still, Carsomyr + 5 is very handy. :)

Absolute immunity isnt really a factor in soa anyway.. If im not mistaken ONLY irenicus uses it
the rest just use prot form magic weapons and mantle / improved mantle

and I agree, Carsomyr +5 is very handy, very very handy although unfortunate that its dispel doesnt work like the inquisitors dispel.. leave it to me to find something wrong with a +5 sword with 40% mr, oh well I cant help what i am
