I am playing a solo Barbarian in my current game. He is level 18, I was trying to take out big red for the dragon scales and I tried and tried to take him out the old fashion hack and slash but was not getting to far. So I started looking around on a different way to kill him. So I read on this site that you can use the wand of wounder and keep using it until he turnes to stone. The only problem with this is that you do not get his gear from doing this. So I was thinking that I would use the ring of earth control and reverse this. Bingo he is back to his old self. So now when I went back to the old hack and slash tactic again since I figured this wand thing is a waste of time. I took one swing at him and bam he died in one swing. And you get the exp again and all his stuff.
Then I got thinking what if I use the wand again and turn him back to stone. So I tried this and sure enough he went back to stone and I managed to get another 64 000 exp. And since I have a bag of holding I just charged up the ring and turned him back to flesh again.
So I guess you could keep doing this until the wand is used up to get as much exp as you want.
I am not to sure if this has been found but I am sure it has. So I am just passing it on again to the new people.
Maybe this can make it into the lots of exp part of the walkthrough stuff
I have heard before that you get experience each time you turn a creature to stone (which, incidentally, you can do with a spell -- much more reliable than the wand of wonder). I believe the same effect occurs if you cast imprisonment then freedom. Waste of two level 9 spells IMHO, and cheesy to boot.
There is a kind of logic to this, though. Since you are basically killing and resurrecting the creature, it makes sense that you would get experience for the "kill" each time. From a programming point of view, I'm not sure how it could be any other way. Unless you forfeit your experience for the easy kill spells, which seems a little unfair to people who play it straight.
The same happens with the casting of inprisonment and then freedom.
The problem is that it uses two level 9 spells, but on the bright side, imprisonment surpasses MR and there's no saving trow.
Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time.
