Obtaining elven chain

Post by psicow »

G'day

After reading the gamebanshee equipment list, it seems that only killing Aran linvail and an unknown npc/location in trademeet are the only 2 speedy options of getting elven chain. So does anyone here know the location of the phantom elven chain in trademeet?

Also this there a bald human/halfelf avatar/paperdoll available in Bg2, so my bald F/M can be SK'd to acutally look the part? Colouring the hair to match the skin of my avatar looks abit silly (my avatar's head looks flat instead of round ).

When you have completed both major Trademeet quests the representitives of two rival families will approach you and request that you obtain an item for them. Once you accept the mission (it does not matter who you end up siding with), the mayor will implore you to simply return the said object to him in order to avoid bloodshed. Instead of listening, hold up your end of the bargain with whatever family you are working for....

Once the dust has settled and you have done the customary raiding, you should find the elven chainmail. :)

Thanks Dragon wench

As for being a gnome i'm kinda tall (190cm ) so i tend not to play short people (thou i did roll up a dwarf once). Also little people get short changed in romance options (I just don't see a tall human/elf/halfelf getting it on with a person half their size). A gnome mating with a winged elf just doesn't sit well with me (again size wise).

elven mail sucks....

choose good alignment and get robe or good archmagic in trademeet...good ac, but ac is not everyhting, the saves alone make it much, much better...

any char who needs elven mail instead of plate is fighter mage, right??? you will be able to stoneskin, which makes armor pretty redundant, so youre bettter off with lots of memorized stoneskins,a nd robes which provise good spell protections....

teh only elven mail worth getting in game IMHO, is asfuyndel mail, in tob, which protects you from +1 weapons or less...and you get that for pc in hell anyway...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Vecna Robe, decreased spell casting time and like 10% (?)resistance, and bracers AC 3 (which is better then youll get with most elven mail anyways). THEN, to top it all off, you can add rings with AC bonuses which are cumlative with the Bracers AND arent interfered with by the Vecna (Archmage Robe however prevents using Rings of Protection I believe)

Edit - I cant remember if Gaxx and Protection +2 (which you get from Aran Linvall) go together, but I know Protection +2 and any of the other rings which have an AC bonus as a side effect go together (like earth control +1 ac)

Yes, you can have Robe of Vecna, Bracers of AC 3, Ring of Prot. +2 AND
Ring of Gaxx at the same time.
No bracers though for a kensai/mage.. :)
Of course, the elven chain HAS to dropped in favor of THE Robe

@GNGSpam, please don't spam in the BG2 threads. The site owner has requested that spamming be limited to SYM, although a reasonable amount of spam is understandable in an occasional humorous BG2 thread. This thread isn't one of those, and we've received several complaints. We'd appreciate agreement on this point. :)

If you have any problems with this, feel free to contact Buck and/or myself via PMs. Thanks. :)

elven chain is alright for theives... doesnt hurt there abilities so much
compare the 'theif armours'

Shadow dragon scale - ac 1 .. but its studded leather and so hurts theiving abilities
Shadow armour - ac 4.. also studded leather, bad ac too but its makes up for some theif skill hurt by giving 15% to hide in shadows
The nights gift - ac 3.. maybe the best choice as it gives 20% to hide in shadows and is only leather armour, thus it doesnt hurt your theiving abilities so much
Elven chain - ac 5.. bad ac, can be augmented with rings / cloaks / ammulets of protection, is incredibly soft on the theif abilities.. I almost always give it to jan as its soft on his theives, gives better ac than his personal armour and he cant wear bracers without taking off his gloves which are really good

Im conveniantly leaving bracers out of this and you all know why, couse there better for theives and mages what with all the bonus' of elven chain but lower ac and NO theif penalties
-->Instert cool sig here<--

Your all powergamers...the lot of you! :D

As for why elven chain and not the robe of swiss cheese. I'm trying to recreate one of my old characters from AC, a fighter/mage in all respects, who could wear plate, still cast spells and wield a big sword. Elven chain (and it's variants) are the only ones that permit casting (if NWN was out, it would be a different story). I suppose i could make some sort of custom plate armour that permits casting, but wouldn't this unbalance the game?

After further reading of the equipment lists Drow elven chain looks quite suitable, but of course it vapourizes in sunlight.

I read somewhere on these boards that if, while still in the Under Dark you load up Imoen with Drow eqipment and have her go back to the Copper Coronet ahead of you, you will find her at the tavern with all the Drow stuff entirely intact. I have never tried this....so I don't know for sure that it works........

That would be the equivlant of cheating though. If your going to do that why not just shadowkeeper your base AC to what you want it to be?

Your all powergamers...the lot of you!

Hey, I'm not a powergamer!!! :D
I use the weapons I like the most, I have chars with
"normal" stats, I do minimal rests....
But it would do completely stupid (for a mage type) to
leave behind that Robe, when half of the world is trying
to kill you! :D

(Anyway, we don't have a stinkin meter system here in Europe, actually
I think we invented the FIRST....
as many other things!
Or maybe it was in China? :) )
Oh, sorry Fable, I felt compelled!! :D
