Mini Crisis for Mini Me!
Mini Crisis for Mini Me!
I have just recently started a new game and i want all different NPCs and romances, so i got Anomen for change, deciding to endure the ego, im gonna romance Jaheira, I took Yoshimo (ill kill him later), and Minsc and Aerie(because shes my old romance and i cant part with her
). BUT, I also want to get Keldorn and Jan, because I like Carsomyr a lot and Jan is just so much fun. Who should I get rid of for them? I was pondering Minsc and Yoshi, but im not sure. 'Elp me Please!!

personally, i would drop both minsc and yoshimo, yoshimo because he dies anyway and minsc because his only saving grace is berserk. Compare Minsc to Keldorn. Keldorn is a mage killing machine and dispels twice his actual level. Also, he can use Carsomyr and firetooth. He has better saving throws too. Then get Jan for a backup mage and your primary thief.
"We thank God, the all powerful and all forgiving, for putting death at the end of life and not in the beginning..."
Yeah, I have got rid of Minsc now, seeing as I have had him for every game ive played, and the Keldorn/Anomen interaction is mildly interesting.
Mini
PS next time ill try out Mazzy and Valydar or whatever he is.

You really should try new NPCs, definetly! Here's a few opinions from me (and I'm sure you wanna hear 'em):
Minsc: He's goofy, but I have to agree with whoever it was that said berserk was his best point. He does have good HP, you can summon the Moondog, Cerrebus, with him, and you can use some descent swords, but nothing matches to Carsomyr!
Jaheira: Great as a Fighter, but her Druid abilities slow her from leveling up. She does have some great dialgues, though! I can never get rid of her though...I always feel like she's mad at me if I drop her!
Anomen: No doubt, he's the best Single-classed Cleric in the game (and the only one if you have Keldorn in the group. Sorry, Viccy.) but he does have that ego problem. However, he's got some of the best dialogues in the game as well, especially when he's argueing with Jan Jansen. (Like Ano the Dung Orc. That's a good one.) There's your gamely entertainment right there!
Mazzy: I didn't think I'd like her, but I tossed out Minsc and even Keldorn (my PC is a paladin anyways) for her. Don't judge her just because she's a Halfling!
Valygar : I think the only time I used him was when I played a Mage and needed him for the Planar Sphere Hold. He was pretty good, but I dropped him pretty fast. I suppose if you use his abilities right, however...
Viconia: Ugh, Viconia. A lot of people like her, yeah, but I'd easily dump her for Anomen. She's evil, meaning she can really only cast Unholy spells like Unholy Word which really aren't that great against a lot of the Evil demons you'll be fighting.
There, I'm done. Back to lurkersville for me! Hey, I wonder if Jan got any new breeds of turnips yet...?

Well, one big difference between Anomen and Viconia is the fact that she's a single-class cleric and he's a fighter/cleric. Meaning that while Anomen can cast spells and hold his own in melee reasonably well, Viconia is much more powerful when it comes to casting. Her stats are much better too (dex and wis).
And yeah, she may be mean but throughout the game she's striving to become a better person (when you're romancing her that is). I like that, she has more depth than most of the other npc's (except maybe Jaheira and Imoen).

I can see where you might think that, but I would still have to say I'd stick with Anomen. Besides, Keldorn will just knock off Viconia anyways...So it's a little iffy. Then again, Anomen will go after Keldorn if he fails his Test, so it's sort of unbalanced. Another problem is if Anomen fails, he'll attack Aerie so the Clerics in the game just don't quite fit with eachother. It's weird.
But a lot of people wouldn't romance Viconia, though. I mean, half of these people are playing through with female PCs, then the guys usually go for Aerie or Jaheria (I can't understand why...She's more like a mother figure to the PC) so there are less and less people going with Viccy.
But Anomen is Dual-classed, so he isn't progressing in the Fighter profiency anymore. But it makes him great against undead: look at it this way, if you load him up with the Amulet of Power (Immune to level drain), the Mace of Distruption (Slay undead at -4), a Sling+2, and a few Cleric rings, you've got your perfect Bodhi hunter!(...Um, unless your romancing him in which case he's uselss...) I know you can load up Viconia in this way as well, but she can't go past one profiency in a weapon, so that's kind of why Anomen's more in my favor.
Sorry, I don't want this to errupt into a huge arguement, Coot. I just thought I'd kind of defend Anomen a little. You gotta feel sorry for him- not many people really care for his attitude, so they discard him, forgetting about what a great fighter he is as a whole. I don't mean to offend Viccy in any way, but Drow elves just aren't that appealing to me, really...

@Aqua-chan: power and ability aside, I think Anomen is a fine character, roleplayingwise. Of course NPC's don't have to be likeable to be interesting - just look at the evil NPC's.
It's far more entertaining to have an arrogant sob in your party than a bland or even boring one. I removed Valygar from my party in my first game for exactly that reason, even though he's very useful in a fight.
Mini: happy romancing, the Viccy romance is the best (IMveryHO)!

Hate to disagree here, but we held a poll a while back and most people thought Viconia was the best romance. I was one of them. Viccy becomes indispensible when you equip her with the Cloak of Balduran and the Amulet of 10% Magic Resistance (100% magic resistance), and as for Turning Undead just give her the cursed Helm of Opposite Alignment.Originally posted by Aqua-chan

@ Grasshopper-
Sorry, I didn't know. I'm kinda new to these forums, and have done very little reasearch when it comes to the polls that were done before I came along. But you gotta remember (Here we go again...) that there are a lot of people still playing the game that havent been around that long, and then there are still a lot of people that don't even come to these forums anyways. But I think I'm gonna end this Cleric despute now--I don't wanna anger anybody on accident, which, is one of my most aggrivating flaws.
@ Coot-
Oh, I couldn't agree more. Valygar was just so dull. He never said anything unless Mazzy made him her squire by force, and even then he didn't say much in his own defence. Yes, I think they could have done a little better with Valygar.
So I guess I'll go out with this. I just don't want to get anybody mad at me, so I'll just drop it off here. Maybe I'll see some of you all later?

I don't care what you say, I'll never ever forgive you for not knowing about a poll posted long before you came along, and I'm never gonna talk to you again. Ever. And I'll sulk to boot. So there.Originally posted by Aqua-chan

No-one's gonna get aggravated 'cause you've got a different opinion to them, and not knowing about something as obscure as a poll that was over with months before you joined is hardly a crime punishable by death. I was just letting people know something which, as you correctly pointed out, they probably didn't know. If you like Anomen then stick with Anomen, BG2 is about role-playing after all.

Getting back to the original topic:
I would agree with trading Minsc for Keldorn. They both make good tanks and have similar competencies.
If you really must use Jan, I would trade Aerie instead of Yoshimo. Since you already have Jaheira, Aerie's cleric skills are redundant and Imoen can make up for Jan's lack of necromantic spells. If you get rid of Yoshi, you will have to leave Jan behind in the asylum. (Hmm, wait a minute, was I thinking that was a bad thing?)
Of course, all of this assumes that you are actually planning on rescuing Imoen. If not, then Jan for Yoshi seems like a decent trade. Also, you might want to take Mazzy instead of Keldorn since she has an interesting with Aerie in the temple of Lathander. Nothing major but a pleasant dialogue...

No way, every good allignment party where the main NPC isn't a paladin should take Keldorn with him.Originally posted by JackOfClubs

Inquisitor is almost the best kit in the game (and surely he's the best good NPC)

You could just take Mazzy briefly with you into the temple of Lathander, and then ditch her for Keldorn.
