I was just wondering if i should play a kensai thief as opposed to a normal thief :D

There are plenty of people who think so, based on the fact that Kensai cannot wear armor so your thieving skills are always available. It certainly would be an improvement over a straight thief in terms of hit points and THAC0.

Personally, I would only use a thief as the first class in a dual class combo, not the second. After a certain point, the thieving skills just don't get better and you find you are wasting experience in career with no future (sort of like being an accountant, I imagine). The only dual classes I would consider involving thief are Thief>Mage (best) and Thief>Cleric. But that really wasn't what you were asking, was it?

Short answer is yes. 2 reasons not to would be just a roleplaying thing or you object to the dualing issues (i.e. playing just a kensai at first and then being a low level thief for a while). Once you've reactivated your original kensai class by getting thief higher kensai thief is way more powerful than regular thief.

The Use Any Item of a thief makes this ridiculously cheesy. I doubt the way its able to be used were the intentions of the game designers

COMPLETELY agree.
Just try to avoid absurd combos like kensai + armor
(they should be no more capable to fight... almost...)
Maybe bracers could be taken
