Speed Soloing

Post by Curdis »

So here's the challenge. Fastest completion of main storyline (to tear door) solo. The rules Image. No shadowkeeper, rolled character at start of BG2, No Export/Import, O.K. for Exp cap to be removed. Obviously there will have to be an honor system here (ie I could post right now that I finished in 2 hrs with a transmuter - hey someone might believe me).

I'm going for it at the moment with a Half Orc Cleric/Theif. My only problem is killing trolls. I think a F/M/T would propbably be easier but I got bored with how powerful my F/M/T was. Hint - I think the allied with Bohdi path is probably quicker/easier (I'm going with Aran anyway). - Curdis
The warlord sig of 's' - word

Making a reappearance for those who have a sig even longer

Generally, spellcasters will take longer than fighters/thieves. From what I saw on another forum the average was from mid thirties to high fifties. But that was for games that did not have this goal. My wizard slayer finished in 39 gays 7 hours (final save), but I did a couple of quests I could have skipped. In fact, I would lke to take the challenge, but do not have time for it right now Image

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted Image

How many days it took to finnish solo? I think my final save said something like 70+ I think. Tried to finnish almost every quest in the game...

This is an interesting challenge. I usually play with similar goals (minimize game-time or rests), also keeping reload (dies) low. But there are a lot of other factors which has a serious influences on game play, see: http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002733.html

Ah some replies Image -> SPOILERS AHEAD

@mishik, Didn't get too much further last night ready to take on Bohdi's lair at day 1 hour 5, still haven't rested so I have no cleric spells. Took the trolls in the slavers out with potions of explosions. Only non-story line quests done are Mae-Var's (waiting for sundown, and good theif equipment), Slavers (to get access to Bernards extra items and some rep points, and waiting for sundown), Ama (so I could go to Adventure Mart).

@Pe Ell - 70 days is still impressive (especially if you did it all - quest etc.) part of the idea of this challenge was to simplify the criteria (and have some fun).

@Kovi - I think I generally follow 'hard-core' rules, but for this challenge it would be interesting to see if any of the in-game tactics (project image or similar) make a difference to a minimmum closing time. Ditto class selection. To an extent I was just sharing what my current spin on BG 2 fun is (seeing as how so many people don't find it a challenge Image). - Curdis

Theoretically every single item of the hardcore rule would matter (eg: with abusing the project image, a high level sorcerer could play with almost no rests.)
Anyway I agree that the F/M/T rulez. I'm going against Bodhi on the first day (no rest). I collected all the best equipment except the Ring of Gaxx (maybe I will go for it before leaving to Asylum).
Though this time I dropped some of the hardcore rules: I have stolen from shops and I'm (ab)using the Magi.

This sounds like a cool challenge. I might give it a try with a berserker dualed to thief. For quick soloing a thief is essential I believe.

Fastest solo for someone that I actually believe (wasn't me): 14 game days for a half-orc F/T, rolled in BG2, no Shadowkeeper, exp. cap still in place. Killing Adalon saves days from not having to do the Ust Natha quests.

I've done it in just over 20 with an F/M/T and no cap, but wasn't really trying to rush it.

I think a better test is to make the stronghold quests required. How fast can you get through including:
Keep (Fighter, Monk, Barbarian)
Sphere (Mage, Sorcerer)
Shadow Temple (Ranger)
Trademeet/Grove (Druid)
Firkragg (Paladin)
Mae'var (Thief)
Eyeless (Cleric)
Prison (Bard)

I did it in 27 days with a pureblood Kensai, but it wasn't solo.

My straight through (without all the quests) solo Barbarian is just about to hit the underdark at day 8 and only rested once to wait for night. The boat trip takes 7 days.

Well, the barbarian is fast...next time I will go for the boots of speed earlier. Image
And yes, the longest times are the travels times (especially that boar trip). So thiefs (and clerics) would have a big advantage as their stronghold needs no travel. I also did MaeVar in the first day with the F/T/M.

That is a valid point. Just think about travels to Trademeet and back. and I was tupid enough to travel there twice, plus several trips to the Keep - could have saved several days there.

@Curdis: good work so far Image Keep it up!

To build the best possible characters both the stronghold quest and trademeet is recommended (the latter for gp/xp/rep and some excellent equipment). Of course this current challenge make things different.

When I suggest requiring the stronghold quests, I don't mean just YOUR stronghold. I mean ALL the strongholds.

Now we're having fun! Image

But I appear to be losing already Image. I just got to Brynlaw at 9 days 2 hours. Taking out Bohdi's lair was a REAL challenge. I've got Cleric spells (post boat trip) and should have no trouble in Spellhold...

As to the stronghold issue, hey I don't really care, but the aim was to keep it simple and quick. So for the next/alternative/mutant challenge?

@Kevin Dorner - 14 days WOW.

Do not worry, you still got time Image I remember Spellhold and Sahuagin City took me less than a day. So you should not be in trouble Image BTW, I remember that I exited Underdark accidentally without killing Adalon and before finishing all the quests. Just pay the drows and they will open the door for you without the scroll (well, I never heard of such a thing before, so it might be a bug, if it is not - it may save you a lot of time).

Good luck

Bodhi's lair was no problem, but Kangaxx (and the other liches) took a (relatively) long time to finish. I have also reached spellhold on the 9th day (1 hour).
Anyway this is my first try with F/M/T and I'm impressed. I'm sure I did too many side quest (even if they were quick and on the same map), the xp is just not worth the time spent. Next itme I will go for the power-items only.
@Nighthawk: 27 day with all the stronghold quest? That sounds excellent and another good challenge! Was it a multiplayer party? Were the dragons killed?
@Kevin: 14 day...oh, well...now I just hope to be in the top10 and finish within 20 day. Image

Kovi: Standard game with the NPC's. Think I used Minsc, Keldorn, Jahiera, Anomen, Nalia->Yoshi(just for the trip to spellhold)->Imoen.

As you can see, very fighter heavy, magic light. That helps when you're trying to fight through without ever resting.

I don't think I could do it solo in that time.

This is fun! My berserker dualed to thief is has just entered the underdark and it is day 10. Don't think I am gonna beat 14 days, I can't believe how easy it has been if you don't care about certain quests...I am hardly doing any quests except for the ones I have to.
Someone soloed a swashbuckler very fast aswell and he had only 50 or so kills which is really amazing. I now have around 400.
I haven't rested yet, is it possible to go without resting? My strength is 18/99. Does anyone know? Are we allowed to ask drizzt for help?

I'm obviously a wuss! I'm having trouble with the umber hulks in spellhold. I'm more of a specialist vampire slayer. - Curdis

Umberhulks are a pain. I am wearing eagers hide so I can't be confused and now that I have the boots of speed I can just backstab everyone.
