Sola and Valen mods

Post by Archeron »

I have just started my first game with these two mods, including the increased intelligence and hardness of all major and random battles etc...

One thing I noticed was that I can no longer use my cheese method of drawing out 'baddies' one or two at a time as when I kill these they are replaced by more- i.e they have to be killed 'on location'. I spent about half an hour killing about 20 kangaxx guardian liches with this method!
This also happens with the 'Crypt King',(and probably others) he summoned about 30 skele's.

It appears as though most battles are going to much harder and I may have down a level ("shock") from second hardest to take down the big boys.

I am also plagued by the '....appears busy' bug even though I have downloaded the fix for it, very frustrating.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I have SoA patches combined with ToB ones (as I only recently put on ToB)?

I doubt that the "appear busy" thing is because of the combinned patch, since I always install the official SoA patch before installing ToB and then the offical ToB patch.

When you say SoA patches, what do you mean by that? Is it the official one from BioWare/Interplay or from other sources?

I mean most of the ones out their, i.e fixes from Baldurdash(Grand mastery,...), patches from interplay (XP and Win 2000 patch), obviously sola and Valen too.

Before ToB install I only had "...appears busy" a couple of times, now Mar've (slpelling!?) wont talk to me and I can't get edwin. :(

Were these things installed before ToB? And have you installed the ToB patch from BioWare?

Yip, they were. Except for the ToB patch (official, but not sure were from), that came after.

The patch should have fixed the problem, but it might be because of the other patched that you've installed. Most of the unofficial things will cause problems with ToB if you installed them before ToB - since ToB overwrite some files, but not if they are newer than a certain date. So unfortunately, you might have to reinstall the game.

I pretty sure that you can keep your savegame, just copy the save folder to somewhere else, uninstall the game, delete the whole BGII - SoA folder - or where ever you installed the game. Then reinstall SoA, official SoA patch (optional), ToB, official ToB patch. Then install your other stuff, make sure that they are compatible to ToB. Then simply copy the save folder back and everything should be working - I'm not 100% sure about this, so you might want to wait for a more definate answer.
