Probably the NoCD crack (which doesn't, btw, remove the need to have the CD in the player). Removes the safedisk copy protection code from the executable, which results in significantly shorter load times (and, apparently, framereate increases for some).

Very, very useful file.

Zat is korrekt!!!!!!!! I'm using the nocd crack too although I did buy the game. It loads alot faster, and you just copy the video directory from CD2 over on your HD so you're sure you don't miss out any videos in the game. Never reads from cd again :) Loads faster, and seems to get higher framerates on my relatively low spec system (amd 600, 512mb ram, gf2 mx)..will be upgraded soon though :) Gonna add some MUCH needed juice (1.8ghz cpu and gf3 ti200).
Can find it on gamecopyworld.com. The only thing is, as with all cd cracks, it alters the .exe file, so it will show as invalid when you apply official patch most likely (if the patch checks for exact size)..So it's a little hassle to patch up later probably, and you will need a new nocd crack for the next version (they pop up almost immediately after release, crackers have too much time on their hands).

You don't need to muck up your original exe file. Just apply NoCD to a copy of the original and rename it.

I moved the origianl .exe to another directory and renamed the NoCD to the same name as the original and dropped it in the originals spot. I still have the origianl to drop back in when the patch comes. Is that what you meant? BTW you said you copied the video over to your HD from CD2, well thats strange because I have yet to even use the second CD that came with the game??? It looks for CD1 at start up. Is that your problem maybe? Wait just relized that isn't Global Threat who posted that...

i thought cd2 was useful only when u use the editor..
and i have never seen a video in this game?

anyway
try to update ur soundcard drivers aswell, i had a friend would couldnt run the game just because he used a sucked soundcard integrated to his motherboard.(he had to decrease direct 3d acceleration for sound aswell)

I assume of course that no one would use the No-CD crack to use an illegal version of this game and you have all purchased copies? Gamebanshee has a very dim view of pirateers in the end it only hurts the gamer.

I don't really want to discuss the issue of piracy in this thread (you could do that in SYM or bump a previous discussion we have had in SYM on the piracy issue) , i thought i would make everyone aware of forum rule #2 - Questions or ideas that deal with illegal activities, including any post related to software piracy, will be removed immediately and you'll lose all posting privileges.

Please bear this rule in mind and there wont be any problems :)

<edit> Also try this link, there is a lot of useful info.

Have no idea what CD2 is for either, but it does have a rather big video directory on it. Maybe endmovies or something.
It didn't use CD2 when i did a full install either, which is sortof odd...what's it for? anyone? just to make the game LOOK twice as big when it has no real use?
Probably some textures for the editor?

@Global Threat, if you have the latest drivers and you've checked off all the possible problem in the readme file that came with the game, I'd suggest giving tech support at Bethsoft a phonecall. That's what they're around for, after all.

I very much doubt the problem is WinXP. Point of fact, it's pretty universally acknowledged that Morrowind runs better on XP then on 2000, ME or 98.

This problem is really unusual, i dont have problems with other games. They are all working well. But this one, morrowind, i start morrowind.exe it tries to load for 1 sec and then it imidieatly returns to desktop...
I would like to contact Bethsoft, but i dont have "original" CD...

You don't have the original CD. Well, that says it all, no?

No, why should it? The pirate copies are pure clones of the original cd's. With the safety protection removed, which should alter nothing in the way the game will run (they only reverse engineer the code and remove a few lines). Do you think pirate copies would be so popular if they never worked? I think not.
These coders are just as good as the developers. It's only assembly and c code anyways. Not some magical fingerwaving that the developers do.

But I can very easily see this thread turning into a piracy vs not-piracy discussion, which will only end up in a flame war. I'm not defending piracy, just saying that a copied cd doesn't have to mean it won't work.

@cjdevito: you use the nocd crack also for convenience, and does it read anymore from the cd? No. So is the pirated versions. As long as everything is preinstalled, and a nocd crack is applied, it works perfectly like the original.

It says it all because Mr Sleep posted rule #2:
"Questions or ideas that deal with illegal activities, including any post related to software piracy, will be removed immediately and you'll lose all posting privileges. "

That says it all to me.
