wizard slayer ?

Post by Onyx »

Has anybody ever played a wizard slayer?
If yes, how? Single or dual?
And what about tactics. I mean what are the good points of playing a wizard slayer? Any ideas?

Yeah, I played one the first time I finished ToB, a pure class one. I think quite a few people dual them to thieves to get UAI but I've never tried that. The biggest hassle was, of course, the item restriction -- especially not being able to wear boots of speed.

Pre ToB wizard slayers couldn't even use potions of healing, which was a bit of a nightmare.

i played a wizard slayer before and i would suggest useing him at a warrior but send him after the mages

also if you download freedome's rain mod you get a sword called mageslain bastard sword which is (a little overpowerd) great against mages

i don't really like wizard slayers but if you do god luck to ya
Ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies

"I'm invinceable"
"your a loony"

I'd rather be rich than stupid.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

Most people seem to think that an Inquisitor makes a much better wizardslayer than a Wizardslayer, thanks to the Dispel Magic at double level and the Magic Resistance of Carsomyr. On the paper, I have to agree.

Wizard Slayers are not easy to play, and IMO, they're not really much fun. All they do is hit things. If I want to kill a Mage, I prefer to use my own Mage. It's a lot more fun that way. :)

We, a few things are been said about playing a wiz slayer, but nobody so far has said, if they have played as a wiz slayer and how.
So, let's change the question.

If you had to play a wiz slayer, how would you play him/her?

Why was Wizardslayers toned down for ToB? I mean it is not like they were overpowered eh?
Anyway, just play them like a fighter and use ranged weapons alot. Tugian bow is nice for a WS.

Toned down as in made easier to play, ie in SoA they couldn't drink potions of healing (how hard can that be? Open bottle, drink contents).

Yeah but in SoA they got 2% MR/level... in ToB they get 1%/level.

Never knew that...did ToB change the mr increase to 1% for wizard slayers in SoA? Or does it decrease when ToB starts or a certain level is reached?

It changes it for SoA aswell.
I don't know why it was 2% in SoA before cause the kit description always said 1%.

Man you are correct. I never saw that... never bothered to play one since the change from 2 per level to 1 per level. But now I see that they end up with 84% MR without any bonuses. Cool!

Check this out...

I played a Wizard Slayer in the very beginning, where I couldn't even fill up all the equipment slots, couldn't drink potions, but I managed to complete the game without any problems and had a really good time doing it. I'd recommend playing a pure WS, as the MR and miscast magic is really good, but also if you want to dual to Thief, once you couple your WS with UAI and a good number of spike traps, you could easily drop all your companions and solo the game probably without dying...

I think I read somewhere that Monks get higher MR than Wizard Slayers, at least eventually. Is this right?
