I was wondering if someone has any good tactic for staying alive in Twisted Rune? I'm in chapter 2 and tried out the Improved Twisted Rune... First of all, it's not possible anymore to lure the enemies one by one. Secondly and last, there is no chance of surviving this bloody battle.
Well, anyone who has been successful??
TIA
Cheers

I heard delayed cast fireballs via projected image works wonders.
Personally, I do the same method with skull traps. You could also lay down a couple traps for Shangalar. Since he seems to cause the largest threat, with his chain contingency + remove magic + 2 abi's. Take him out 1st and the rest should be real simple.
Shangalar's Abi's killed half of my party, which, by the way, consists of Keldorn, Anomen, Nalia, Tashia, Aerie and me (Undead Hunter). I also tried to leave Nalia out and take Yoshimo in her place (level 12), but his traps did nothing to Shangalar save for some petty injures...
The problem is that my party's levels is approx., 14-16, which means we can't cast Delayed Fireballs or any high level spells. As for the rest they don't look so simple anymore...

Have one character (probably Keldorn, with True Sight active) well protected from Fire keep the enemies on the room where you first appear. With the rest of your party hid on the stairs, have Anomen (and Aerie, if possible) cast Firestorms, and Nalia cast Incendiary Clouds (from scrolls, if not high level enough). If Keldorn have over 100 resist fire, he will actually be healed by the spells, while the Runies drop like flies! Just be attentive to the beholder's rays dispelling your fire protection.

Abazigal: "Oh my god! They killed Yaga-Shura!"
Sendai: "You bastards!"
Summon a bunch of monsters and send them out before hand and move you characters as far away from everyone as possible. The enemies will focus on the monsters then send your mages out to cast spells and your fighters to attack the already occupied enemies.
Tactics will largely depend on what people you have in your group. I find that usually Layenne is caught up in his timestop/gate/metoer swarm and then he hurts the pit fiend so he usually uses a maze on it. The place you start in is really ass because Shangalar will be in the middle of your party, I found that moving to the south of the twisted rune is a much better place to set up. Have your fighters try to drop the vamps and beholder quickly, this will prevent them from draining levels and stoning your party(sometimes a bad thing!) and then use your typical lich tactics and you will be rewarded nicely.
I remember in this battle, where the mage finally uses the Staff of Magi, I had to rely on a heavy use of Detect Illusions, maybe combined with True Sight, to raise the odds to get "attacking time windows"...
