Question about dual-classing

Post by lazE »

Im interested in playing an Elven Rogue with the dual-wielding feats. I've seen that lots of people that want to dual-wield start out as a ranger and then dual to their desired class. My question is, will dual-classing as a Ranger 1/ Rogue X Elf have really bad negative effects on my character? Will I still be able to hit Rogue level 20? Will the EXP penalty really mean anything?

If the 2 classes are within 1 level of each other there is no penalty. Once they are more than 1 level apart there is a 20% XP penalty. UNLESS...hehe.. 1 of the classes is a favored class for your race, then that class doesn't count toward the multiclass penalty. Examples: Elven rogue 5/ranger 4..no penalty. Elven rogue 5/ranger 3..20% XP penalty. Elven rogue 5/ wizard 1...no penalty because wizard is the favored race class. This is all on page 148 of the manual btw.

char level

The max character level is 20. The character level is the sum of the class levels. So a Ranger 1/ Rogue x will at most be Ranger1/Rogue19.

If you went half-elven you could do the dual thing easy with no penalties. I currently have a half-elven Paladin/Sorceror/Cleric 11/1/1 who is going fine.

Hehehe that true only if you keep the lowest 2 within 1 level of each other. Same with humans btw.

Yup, one of the nice things about being half-elf :)
