Long sword-It's just the most typically elven sword around.
Also I always picture paladins with a shield and long sword.

My favorite type is a katana, because it's the most stylish kind of sword, IMHO, and it just fits the Kensai, my current char.

I voted bastard sword, b/c in ToB paladins are so deadly with these (Purifier, which only Paladins can use, and Foebane, nasty combo).
But all of these (except for short sword) can all be very useful and have very powerful magical versions. Short swords do suck, though.

Ehm... why no scimitars?
The spectral brand is very useful!

And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

I voted short swords.
I think piercing damage is highly underestimated in the game; the short sword is very fast so you can always deal out the first blow.
The chance of getting hit by an opponent afterwards is smaller, because you already lowered some scores.

A fighter with ***** prof. on short swords using the Cutthroat +4 doesn't sound bad, does it? :D

Ok, I'll choose longsword anyway. The most useful and powerful weapons in the game happen to be longswords
Too bad if someone's playing a druid like me, at present...

Why hell is Scimitar not on the list? Belm has been in my off hand since.... damn I can't remember how long it's been. There' are also other good ones like the Spectral Brand.

daggers are my favorite cuz they are the hell hard to fight with and stylish... imagine a fighter with 2 daggers vs. a fighter with a halberd. katanas are great as well.

Bastard swords are just the best! This is not a fact just my biased point of view. Bastard sword and a nice big shield is the way to play.

@Bruce Lee

I'd assume you're talking about ToB, not SoA, true? ;) :D

Somehow I feel that katana's don't really belong in Ad&d...
Long swords are cool. Though in Neverwinter Nights they made dubble edged swords. (like Darth Maul from Star Wars)
They are very cool too!

I call ToB Bastards revenge hehe. Seriously SoA was unfair towards Bastard swords... still they had some good ones...and I like them and the sword in general... a fighters only sword.

Yeah, where are the scimitars? I'm using the Belm Scimitar +2 at the moment and it rules! escpecially with haste or improved haste on where you can have a massive amount of attacks every turn! :D :D
