Identify problems

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why my fighter/mage character cannot use her Identify spell. She used it once, but now no matter how long she rests the spell is always darkened/grayed out. It's the only spell that does this. This is causing me a lot of grief in the game!

She's an elf, 4th level fighter and 3rd level magic user.

Any ideas?

you can't cast identify in the normal way. i.e. click on the moon icon on the bottom toolbar. You have to go into the inventory and right click on whatever item it is you want identified and assuming you have identify memorized you can choose spell (as oppose to scroll) and voila. Your mage may identify it just by right clicking by lore. I'm assuming 18 int or at least decent plus around 10 lore for the class levels which puts you at 20, I think that means you can identify general stuff +1.
