a bug with the sir salres quest?

Post by takara »

Hi, I'm doing the sir Sarles quest for the church of Helm. At the moment I have TOB installed as well. When I talk to unger Hilldark about the illithium the game suddenly suffers a slow down in the game speed. i.e the pendulum takes an extra second per swing. This doesn't seem like a lot but it get really irritating as your characters start walking in a jerky fashion. I also found this happened after talking to sir Sarles and giving him the fake illithium (so you can't avoid it by doing the fake path).
I tried uninstalling and playing only on SOA, and the bug disappeared. I saved the game after talking to Hilldark, and installed TOB. When I loaded up, the game was back to being slow again. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this and if there was a solution.
Thanks.

Uhm, I don't think the problem has anything to do with Sir Sarles' quest.
Maybe your pc (I mean the computer not the character) ;) is just somewhat low on resources after you install ToB?
Try to free some disk space if you can... I'm not sure it will help, but it worked for me long time ago, and I was experiencing a similar problem.
Hope it works for you too!
Good luck

Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

You're probably right. I am running the game at the below spec. setting. 330MHz. I played through on SOA for a bit and then put TOB back on and the game worked O.K. I'm now having similar trouble in spellhold. Too many resources and not enough processor power. The story of my P.C at the mo. Thanks for the idea, though. :D

It is likely a problem with your disk. I have the same problem. When I enter the 2nd level of Windspear Hills, and when I exited the Underdark the same thing happened. It ruins the game with the slow down/jerkiness. My 3rd disk has an error that will not allow a full install. It worked when the game was brand new, but I guess the disk was damaged.

I tried reinstalling, messing with the config, even defraging, but nothing works.

My advice is buy the game again, borrow a disk, or download the game and see if it is any better. At least yours crapped out near the beginning!
