It's really more of a choice on your part than anything else.

I would tend to say that vs. evil is a better all-around choice since a lot of faction-style monsters (e.g., goblins, orcs, etc.) tend to be lawful evil. At least that's how I remember is in 2nd Ed.

Then again, a lot of powerful things are chaotic. But chances are, if they're chaotic, they're also evil.

Hiya TW ;)

i agree 100% with your take on the cloaks and adding my two cents, it wouldn't suck to carry both and wear 'em situationally, with my personal default choice of "vs. Evil".

Protection vs Evil

Protection vs Chaos is only better against Chaotic Good and Chaotic Neutral foes - and how many of them are you likely to meet?

**Spoilers**

For some reason, the toolset lists Maugrim as being Lawful Neutral or something like that. Strange huh? I think he might even be neutral good which would be really wierd.
A +5 vs. neutral would seem to be the best cloak because it works against five alignments, lawful neutral, true neutral, chaotic neutral, neutral good and neutral evil. Besides, most druids and treehuggers are neutral, and I really don't like them in NWN or BGII. Just me though.

But you are going to meet and fight far more evil creatures in the game than neutral ones.
It is best to be thought a fool and stay silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I don't think it will make much difference. Soon, you will use Cloak of Fortification +3, and forget those two ever exsisted. :D
There can be...
No good without evil
No heaven without hell
No love without hate
No innocence without lust..
