clerics and swords

Post by ILL WILL »

anyone know if there's a way to remove the weapon restriction for clerics in the bg 1? i have this neat idea for a priest, but i want him to be able to use swords. is there a line or something i can change that will allow it?

You can use gatekeeper to give yourself a prof in swords and then use it to equip one. Or you can edit the file WEAPPROF.2DA accordingly. I've never actually tried this kinda of thing in bg, but it's something you have to do in BG2 to make kits so it should do the trick.

yeah the prof isn't a problem...i was wondering how to remove the restriction that keeps clerics from using them...like how to give them access (swords are grayed out and a cleric can't equip one)

I deleted it because I don't have BG installed at the momment and the file was a BG2 file. I forgot I'd uninstalled it the other day. If you have the Infinity Explorer just find the file named WEAPPROF.2DA save it edit it the way you need to and then save it to the override folder. Sorry about the mix up.

Wait a minute, I think you'd have to change the usability of each weapon, which would take more time than you'd probably care to spend. So changing the WEAPPROF.2DA wouldn't do a whole lot. I just remembered because someone asked a similar question a while back. Sorry.

It's kinda wierd. I thought it would be neat to have an ascension type character, similar to a mortal st. michael from the stories about how he battled demons..jacobs ladder, etc.

so it's basically more trouble than it's worth you think to deal with the sword issue? i'm not familiar with how to edit the game with the teambg editor.

You're better off just using GateKeeper to give yourself a prof in swords and to equip them. I don't think there are that many swords in BG so it would be doable, but it would still take a while.

The problem with using GateKeeper is that you can't, IIRC, switch between the sword and another (ranged) weapon. Equipping the other weapon will cause no problem but then you can't switch back. And the sword will probably be moved to the inventory each time you level up as well.

It's still doable if he really wants a Cleric with a sword though, he's just gonna have to re-equip it if he gets a new one, switches from a ranged weapon, or levels up. And when you do either of these it stays in the slot it's just not usable.

I beleive the problem is that not on the cleric side, rather on the weapon side...

If you use an item maker / editor like infinity pro.. All swords are unusable by clerics / mages ect

You would have to edit the sword you want to use with such and editor... It woont be too time consuming if you know how to do it

Thats how I got a sword weilding cleric, but if theres a faster way out there, I dont know of it...

good luck
