Just talk to the smith and ask him about ingredients. He will give you a book the details the ingredients needed for the items. And yes when creating items it is similar to BG2 in that you give the ingredients to the smith, put them in the forge in this case, then pay him 500 gp to create them item then go back to the forge and there you are with your new item.

So chapter 1 and 3 have forges do they also have different recipes ? Or is it a good idea to create the items in chapter 1 even if it's just for the cash ?

And how about the act 2 eltooia thing can you create items there even if your not a wizzard ?

Are there any items that are really good to create and sell if your looking for money ?

You can make a profit from forging items.

Most +1 weapons sell back to vendors for about 500-700 gp. Add 500 for forging costs and the total loss to you is about 1000+. But the forged items sell for 1500- 2500, so you clear a nice profit in the end.

I would not forge any items until chapter 3.

You don't need to +1 version to get the Chapter 3 versions. You just need the components, and they're exactly the same as the Chapter 1 items. This way you save on the rarer component pieces.

If you want items that are made of Diamonds, Adamantine, or Special Holy Waters, I'd wait, since those are kind of tough to come by.

But for things that need Fairy Dusts, Gargolye Skulls, or Dragon Bloods, just make them if you want them. You'll get plenty of those before chapter 3 is over.

Also, the items created from chapter one are all kinda crappy anyway. They really don't make your game THAT much easier. The Whitebone Armor is an exception though. It's pretty nice, but you need to level up before you can use it.

Their arent really any items at either of the forges to make for a monk. If you want monk items talk to the priests in each chapter, they will have them.

some of the constructed items sell for much less than expected, the dire mace, for example.

i think i save relaod more in the forge then i do in the rest of the game. trial and error as to what items are good (or at least valuable.)
