Interesting Question

Post by Eriks »

A friend of mine who never really played D&D or any such related games asked me a question the other day. He asked me why monsters like orcs, goblins and minatours (sp?) are automatically assumed to be evil, when in most cases it is the player character who is intruding on their homes and wipes them all out for defending themselves. I could not give him an answer
Do any of you ubber D&d geeks (just joking) know where such monsters come from and why they are considered evil automatically?

Most of them are born or raised evil. It's in both their genes and their culture. A non-evil orc is a rare exception.

I, myself a DM, don't consider good or evil absolute aspects. Each one considers the other one evil. The PC's are just as evil as the monsters.

To quote Einstein "Everything is relative."

The REAL question is: Why the hell do creatures like Yuan-ti and Doppelgangers persistenty try to get in politics?? The (semi)human races don't actually compete with them on terms of wealth, breeding or expansion.

Maybe the Yuan-ti and dopplegangers just like causing the general mayhem that occurs when things start getting all nutty.

That could be the answer the YT's alignment IS chaotic evil, but their social structure and way of handling is overall looks more lawfull. I think they've made a mistake with the alignment losting in the MM. Surely the cold and logical YT won't hazard their agenda's for pleasure.
