vampires in windspear hills
i am having a real problem getting past these guys. i have read all the hints posted so far on here but they are still defeating me...any help gratefully recieved!
If you don't have a high-level cleric, then buy some Protection from Undead Scrolls and use them on your fighters, and make sure they're equipped with +2 or better weapons. Send them in alone to deal with the Vampires, and close the door behind them. Have them whack all the Undead until they're dead.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I know this can be difficult when you're really needing help, but could you list your current party members and levels plus where you are "Chapterwise"? Some general help
* Use the door as a chokepoint and improve one or two fighter's AC to the max. Also give those two Chaotic Commands (a 5th level Priest spell). If you have level drain protections, use it on them. The vampires will concentrate on the two fighters and your mages/clerics can cast area effect/damage spells to weaken/destroy those stuck behind.
* If you have a Cleric (and you should unless you're solo ), use the "Turn Undead" ability. Unless you're at a really low level, the Cleric should at least repel a couple giving you some time to beat on the rest. Plus, if there are other undead amongst them, they'll be toasted. Nothing like getting a mummy's rotting disease or paralysed by a ghast while you're trying to kill the vamps.
* Certain items and spells at higher levels are VERY useful against vampires. As I said, if you can let us know how far along you are in the plot, we can help without dropping any spoilers.

Yeah, until you've got the amulet of power, a very high level cleric, or lots of restoration scrolls; prot. from undead is the way to go. Just goofing around, I found out one tank with one pro undead scroll can shred the graveyard and the dungeon below it. Use potions of speed on a beefed up tank and let him clean house. Sent in the group behind him to pick up the spoils.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
I had my skald with that sun sword.. (??) go in invisible/stoneskined and with the amulet of power... he positioned himself in the middle of all and Casted sunray... all died but one... who i hit once to kill.. =)
Donny! You are OUT of your element!
Have you not listned to the dudes story Donny? So you have no frame of refference here Donny, you are like a child who walks in in the middle of the movie.

There's also a wand of holy smite, I think--or am I thinking of another, similar clerical spell of use against the Undead? In any case, it's very handy when facing off against the vampires. The first time I did that area, my party fled in disarray; the second time, my clerics were prepared, and we used the doorway as a chokepoint. Wherever possible, other Undead were allowed to face my people rather than vampires, which allowed for longrange casting without exposure to the vampire's melee attack. And I avoided uses high level summons.
Has anybody tried one of Mord's Swords against the vamps? Can they charm it?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
