The Joys of Iron Golems

Post by fable »

I was just curious if anybody had actually faced and killed the iron golems guarding the Black Raven's Tomb, rather than running like hell away from 'em with the booty; and if so, how you did it. :D

I had a bunch of weapons that had 'effective +5 to hit' on them even though their other enchantments were sucky. I just loaded them up and started swinging.

Which +5 weapons? The only thing I can think of that deals +5 at that point is the bludgeoning staff, but in fact that comes right after you leave the area--the drow merchant sells it. Well, and there's a +5 mace, I think, but it's only good against humanoids.

Not actual +5.... the crappy +1 variety that has a property allowing them to hit critters requiring up to +5. Surefire? Surestrike? They had a name along those lines. Very common in my game, even in the early chapters.

Guess it's luck of the draw. I recall finding a +4 against evil, I think, and maybe a +5 against humans, but nothing that would do for the golems. I just ran like hell. :)

From my experiences, it seems that Golems can only be damaged by +3 weapons or certain procs. Thus, your monk won't do much against Golems until he or she gains +3 fists.

where Cdjevito claims that the weapon enchantment required to defeat IGs is much higher.

(taken from another thread)

It's +3 required to hit IGs. I actually received a message to that effect within the game. What I was saying above was that all I had were +1 and +2 weapons, but that I had a bunch of craptastic +1 weapons that had a special enchantment on'em that allows them to hit creatures requiring up to +5.
