Seeking help with destruction of altar

I think the only thing I have left in the ice palace is destroying the altar. I just can't figure out how though, it hints something about the monsters (forgot their name) were well suited for the task...

Any help appreciated

Speak to Nickademus [sic] and he will give you the true name of the entity inhabiting the altar and impersonating Auril. Go to the altar and banish the entity back to its home plane. Then go speak to the Abashi and free them.
