We all have a reason for picking the names above our little avatars. So here is the deal, why did you choose your username, this should be interesting I guess.

First of all, check out these threads ;) :

how did you pick your GB name?
Nicks or Names or Whatever…

As to my nick, I read the Lord of the Rings and wrote my own short story for a small paper. One of the characters was "Eerhardt", whose name is a contraction of the Dutch words "Eer" and "Hart" or "Honour" and "Heart". I added the "d" for stylistic reasons.

Why did I actually choose my username? That hasn't actually been asked before, rather I have spoken of the origins behind my username. Therefore I will attempt to answer as best I can, it was a long time ago, in the mists of time, when Sleep was a lowly teenager of the petulant kind.

Playing Unreal Tornament is the cause, I need a good nick, I had a whole host of them but none of them fit, until I came upon the film Dark City, I saw a little kid running around being menacing, there were others such as Mr Hand, but the others sounded a bit gay, so Mr Sleep was born.

After playing around with other usernames online, some of them shambolic, I used my Mr Sleep username for the first time online, this fateful site was Gamebanshee and the legend was born.

Don't mind checking my name...

...underneath all those spam in the previous thread. :p

I'll just say it again:

Maharlika --> Old Filipino (of Malay origin) word for noble.

I was hoping that fellow Filipinos will recognize my name, thinking that there are others in GB...

...funny, but the first person to recognize me as a Filipino based on my username, was not a countryman of mine --- but an American --- Chanak. :D

The reason why I decided to use Weasel, a nickname from highschool, was so I could have full coverage when my plans to run for governor become the news of the day.

Next mayor,
Then governor!

Several years ago, I was trying to learn to read and write Gealic, scayde was a word I came across (I don't remember what it means :o ). I liked the sound of it, so I made it my online name. I've been Scayde now for about 5 years.. ;)

I think the first three usernames I selected were already taken. I figured no one had used Ned Flanders. I was correct.

My username is my AOL screen name. I try keep an absolute minimum number of different logon IDs so I don't get too confused.

How I got my AOL SN is a bit of a story, too, since a buddy of mine set it up for me. There are five of us who use one AOL account with different SNs to save us all some dough. I missed the setup meeting and was told that my SN was HiLordDave (that was back when AOL SNs were limited to 10 characters; it was also a more friendly SN in the sort of "Hi, Lord Dave" kind of way, instead of the world domination that is implied by being the High Lord Dave). When AOL went to the 16 character SNs, I expanded it out to HighLordDave.

I would also like someone to stop by and explain their username. They don't hang out at SYM much (if at all), but every now and then I see someone with the username Giant Space Ham and I would like to know how he/she came up with that. If you see him/her, please ask them to stop by and let us in on the story. If there were a category for the next SYM Awards Show for best username, Giant Space Ham would absolutely have to win.

My name is a mutation of DDT and an adopted taunt.

@HLD: As this is a very BG oriented forum, wouldnt you guess it comes from giant space hamester, wich exceeds the maximum char limit in usr names?

That's a very good explanation; I hadn't thought of that. When I think of a giant space ham, "Pigs in Space" comes to mind, not Boo.

LOL I didn't know you are a fan. But, actually, each time I saw your old avatar of Mr Flibble, I remind a scene from Red Dwarf. :D

Well a few years ago I read the play "Romeo and Juliet". One of the antagonists in the play was "Tybalt", also my favorite name in the play. A couple months later I played Civilization II, and wanted to think of a cool name for the leader. Tybalt came to mind, but I thought "Tybaltus" would be a fiercer and cooler name rather than just plain, Tybalt. Since then, that has been the coolest name I have come up with and I adopted it as my alias. And still use it as all my online aliases.

So if youre not asleep yet from my story, then good for you. I never said the derivative to my name was interesting. :D

Mr Flibble's sole appearance was as the penguin handpuppet that Rimmer used to try and kill the rest of the crew with in RD5: Quarantine. I have all the videos (waiting for them to come out on DVD), a hat, a coffee mug, 3 t-shirts and I know most of the scripts from memory. I think that counts as fanatical. :D
