Rogue anyone ?

Post by Nagroth »

I´d like to know if it is worthwhile to play a high level rogue. I have played some chars who had some rogue levels (Ranger/Rogue, Barbarian/Rogue, Sorceror/Rogue) but has anyone played a pure rogue to a high level ? If so, what are your experiences ? Can you create the ultimate assassin ?

Very very very fun. I loved it and still do. All of my characters have been Rogues, besides one fighter attempt. Not only do they make the game more challenging right away, but you get so many more choices to respond to in the way of persuasion. You can also see all those pesky traps disarm them or recover them(make some good cash). Depending on who you multiplayer with, a rogue can be fun or not. If you are in a big group of hack/slash, not so fun, cause you will never be useful.

I've learned the real fun of being a rogue is in an area with lots of hiding places. You can snipe a guy, run to a hiding spot, go stealth. They walk around the corner, bam. Sneak Attack! Fall back, go stealth.. repeat. So much fun and it gets the heart pumping. The only drawback is undead creatures. Man I hate undead with a rogue.. The only time I've ever NEEDED Linu.

Also, by the time you get Uncanny Dodge 3 or 4, you can pretty much walk through traps and your reflex saves pretty much always work.

For the first several levels I fought mostly with range weapons. By the time you get up there lvl 14 or so, I've noticed that while you don't have the best AC (if you are wearing light armor) you don't get hit as much. Some times I'd rather not use the henchmen (even the Barbarian) because they couldn't dodge very well. So at this point in my games, I was far more Melee.

I now almost always play a character with a few rogue levels. Soloing a Rogue through mods is great fun :) .

I really don't think that it's necessary to push rogue levels beyond 13 though (just personal preference) because, IMO most of the high level rogue abilities just aren't worth having. A couple are just super though (Improved Evasion and Slippery Mind are excellent).

I often dual class a rogue with ranger levels. Some good choices are:

Rogue 13/Ranger 7
Rogue 11/Ranger 9
Rogue 10/Ranger 10

And if you really want a skilled assassin, you may consider taking a monk level and dual-weilding kama's (ie. Rogue 10/Ranger 9/Monk 1)

Rogues are great fun to play and coupled with Sneak Attacks and Critical Hits, it's fairly easy to do major damage.

I reccomend taking one level of Ranger and one level of Barbarian and the rest Rogue. Won't be a pure Rogue but by the time you reach a high level you practically will be, with the benefits of having ranger/barb classes. Dual wield light weapons and you will also get faster movement from the barb level.
