Having a Problem, Just Bought NWN
I just bought NWN, and installed it. I'm having a problem. I'm pretty sure it's the software, but I wanted to check and see if anyone else had similar problems, or if it's a known issue that has a patch before I return it. I can install normally, and can get through the opening credits and movie, but then the game freezes. Also, not being a hardcore computer guy, what is a texture packet, and which one should I choose? I'm running a 900 mhz pc and have tons of HD space and RAM. Anyway, Hello to everyone, I'll be around this board for a while. Some may know me from the BG2 board

To be honest, I'm not sure. I do know that the autodetect done in the installation said I had all the necessary stuff.

That definitely sounds video card related. Update your drivers. If that doesn't work, your video card might not be good enough. I think the game requires at least 16-32 MB video RAM. The game is also known to have compatability problems with a number of video cards. If you don't plan on upgrading your card in the near future, you might want to consider a refund.

I origonally was using the the ATI Radian (Rage or something) and I had the latest drivers. At the credits, etc.. it would lock up. I then went and got like someone said, some older drivers for it and whallah! Everything worked just fine.
Oh, and it doesn't always matter it your card is cream of the crop. If you feel like some 007 work, open up the NWN ini file and you can turn on different video options for your card that NWN might now normally allow. For instance, I had a Voodoo card when I bought the game (imagine, I've gone through 3 different cards while playing). The Voodoo didn't support OpenGL 1.3 or higher and all mine supported was 1.2. So in the INI file you could write over the 1.2 and trick NWN into thinking you had 1.3. There were a couple other flags that needed tweaking as well (can't remember), but the game played. Only the occasion choppy graphics when things got willy nilly.

Man, thanks for all the ideas. After I got home I found that I have an Intel 82810 graphics card. My OS is WinME. I reinstalled without a texture pack, got the latest driver (though the idea about getting an older driver sounds pretty good) and the game now works. Only problem is with the blinking mouse cursor, but it's workable. I may uninstall some of the games i dont use to free up RAM. I know I have plenty available but it couldnt hurt. Messing with the ini file sounds promising, but with my limited computer knowledge, I'd need detailed instructions, or it sounds like a recipe for disaster, lol
