Best Class in the Game

Post by MasterDarkNinja »

I've been wondering just which class do people think is best class in BG2?
in the poll vote for the class area that your class fits into (undead hunter votes go to paladin ect...)
also there are three classes that don't fit into the class groups and kits so here's what to vote for each of them if you want to vote for them.
Sorcerer = Mage
Monk = Fighter
Barbarian = Fighter
the reason for these areas is because that how it counts in the stronghold quests.
Edit: I didn't phrase this very good (noticed later after some posts) so here is what I mean by how to decide who to vote for.
okay lets see here the thing I met for you vote for (based on your opinion)... well seeing as how I labeled this "best" class I guess it should be what class you think would be very valuable in fighting that could also have some well needed skills elsewhere like disarm traps, healing, ect...

Best class for what? I don't think that this poll makes too much sense because all classes have strengths and weaknesses etc. Like the theif is a weak class all by itself but it is pretty much crucial in a party. Also, Fighters are very good, but when dealing with a powerful mage the mage will win if you don't use a magic user yourself. That last sentence was confusing, so keep reading it untill you understand.

Well you shouldn't leave them out. My pick goes to sorceror, not mage, but sorceror. Therefore I'm not gonna vote.

I think dual classes are really nice, I dont think there is a "best class", each class is suitable for certain situations, without the frontline melees magic users are toast, so are archers, so you need the melees. Then again you need magic users to beat some tough foes that use spells to protect themselves from fighters. Without thieves, game is a LOT harder, plus you lose a ton of experience that you get from disarming traps and opening locks. I think every character has its purpose in the game and is useful.

my favorites are archer(had 9 attacks per round with tuigan bow lol i can kill a whole army before they get to me), and fighter/thief multi class(give him 2 stars in single weapon style and watch him do a critical damage on a backstab hehe. When I just made him, he did a critical of 86 damage with a regular katana, but then again he's a half orc 19 str 18 dex and 19 con ).

in melee mages can summon creatures to aid them, though I agree that a thief is absolutely essential in a party. A team of mages with no fighter may be formidable but without a thief ... watch out for those traps!!!

I played a multiplayer game and used lots of Mordenkainen's Sword. That was fun ! (i think there was one mage and one sorcerer, plus a fighter/thief for stickier situations ... Aerie, Viconia and Jaheira were in too but they didn't do much, they were there just for the interaction).

Dunno about everyone else but I think that mages get me more involved in the battles than do fighter types who I just send in (turn AI on) and they do the rest. Thieves in battles are a pain to try to get backstab happening *grr*. And cleric/druids, once you use up the few snazzy high-level spells, you just end up with pretty dud ones imo.

I don't really have a favorite class, but I'd have to say druid is my least favorite, in the BG series.

I liked the paladin quests...

...however, a more appropriate term for this poll would be favorite instead of best. ;)

After Undead Hunter, I just love the Kensai-Mage. :cool:

2 words for you: "Detect Traps"

It's a spell.

Yes, it sucks, but it works. Also, I hear they have mage/thiefs now..

A poll without at least the common mc/dc characters (f/t, f/m, f/c, f/t/m) doesn't make much sense because too many players are multi- or dual-classing their chars. Besides that - do you mean "best" like "most powerful" or like "most fun to play"?

Btw, fighter/thief would be my answer - good mix of power and fun.

note to self: never start a poll at 10:20pm right before bed because I will be in too much of a hurry when making the poll...

I forgot to say that I voted for, I voted for paladin since I think that the undead hunter is the best class in the game from having the most useful advanages and being immune level drain on a warrior like him can be very useful, the mace of distruption may be able to make your guys who can use a mace immune to level drain but think about it this way.
1st how many of your fighters (or main fighter types) have any points in maces or use maces?
2nd the mace of disruption is ironically located in 2 different areas (before you assemble it) that both have level draining undead there.
because of this the undead hunter is the best class in the game I think, and it would be foolish to declare an undead hunter useless when they have the best advanages out of everyone. (so vote goes to paladin).

Undead Hunter is strong, being a paladin.
But due to the great supply of Protection from Undead scrolls, spells like Sunray, and the existence of items like Daystar, Azuredge, MoD +2 and the Amulet of Power, I find that the Undead Hunter is the least useful paladin kit. :)
But, as i said, it's still powerful, just not as powerful as the Cavalier or the Inquisitor.
I cannot be caged.
I cannot be controlled.
(I probably cannot be contained either) :p ;)

Due to te strong undead population in BG2 undead hunter is probably a pretty good choice. But since I've specialized in small parties I can't afford the luxury of playing a single class PC. ;)

I found f/t to be the most exciting one, my dc f/m became a melee loving killing machine guarded by summons and my mc c/t died by hard disk headcrash. My evil f/t raised hell ...

Best is subjective, as any class (with a few exceptions) could kick ass if played right. My favorite however, is the ranger; rangers have long been my favorite class to play. I love the stalker kit especially.

I didn't expect so many duel/multi class lovers... well your going to have to vote for just one class in this poll, maybe I should of allowed multiple votes... too late now... this poll has sure gotten a whole lot of votes for it's age though.

I voted thief because every party needs one. I know there are ways to get around it but it's a pain (knock, find traps). Specifically the swashbuckler can hold his own in a fight. Other strong ones that offer a lot to a party are the paladin and ranger as they combine a few different things cleric and fighter or fighter thief and druid respectively.

I'm suprised that no one has voted for the cleric or druid yet, maybe it's cause there's no super powerful class in the cleric area and the druid's all level up so slow.
I was certain that the bard and druid wouldn't get a lot of votes.
I'm not suprised that the mage is winning the poll for now though.

Seeing as we are limited to single classes, I'm not surprised about no votes for the priests. A Ranger/Cleric or a Fighter/Druid is pretty good. But a mage beats a priest for spell casting any day (Yes they have SOME good spells, but overall a mage is better). And although they can wear the same armor, the warriors are way better at fighting. That leaves the priests as kind of a weak fighter/weak spell caster.

My vote went to thief. (With boots of speed.) They are the best character outside of combat. In combat they can sneak in, kill the baddie, run like a coward, repeat. For an added bonus, lay some traps before doing this, and if they follow you chunks everywhere!

My second choice is actually Bard. Good mage spells that they can cast in chain mail that you find early in the game. I also love some of the special harps and am a fan of pick pockets to get a lot of cash early. Throw in the high lore, and you have a well rounded (non-combat) character. In a fight they can sing, cast spells, and use wands.
