Edwin just earned his first HLA, I'm currently in the underdark. Any suggestions on which one first. Dragon Breath, Comet, Planetar, and improved alacrity are what I'm considering

No timestop yet. I do have the robe of Vecna already...does it stack with Imp. alacrity?

Don't know, i think it does. But i'm not sure.

Dragon Breath then, this is a powerfull fireball. and can be cast in close quarters or dropped in the middle of a melee rush, since it doesn't affect party members. don't know about comet, haven't played mage that much.

It's always good to have a planetar with you, great fighting capability, great spells (3 heal, true sight, ...).

Improved Alacrity + Robe of Vecna = murder.

Oh, and there's a scroll of Time Stop to be had in the Underdark, if you're greedy enough.

There's also... (highlight to read)

a mage you can free by casting Freedom. He's near the portals and the soul trap thingy. Ask for a bigger reward and he'll get angry and attack you. Pick the Time Stop off his corpse.

Ohhh... That's why you wrote that you have to be greedy, if you want the Time Stop spell. :p

If you use teh roeb of vecna you get the lowered casting time, if you use impr. alacricity you don't have to wayt before casting a new spell. So in theory you can cast as many mm as you want in one timestop. to read cheezy plz highlight
you can put the autopause to at spell cast. This way the game pauses when you've cast the spell.

BTW leave the alacticity to later and get the planetar it rocks!!!

if you play sorc, get alacrity....

you can empty all your spells in 5-6 rounds....

if you play a mage get planetar or dragon, planetar if your cleric stinks...dragon and chain contingency is all you should have in ninth level slots....

but yeah, i have to agree with phantom, a planetar makes certain quest areas, you will see, much easier....use impr hast and free action AFTER haste, and have it cast globe of blades, a cuisinart summon...

use mass inv for even more fun....

improved haste makes it a pure killer, whirlwinding all the time, and free action makes it invulnerable to stun, which is just about the only thing its vulnerable to, and mass inv raises ac and lowers to hit by enemies...

heck, haste and mass inv makes any summons, particularly skellies pure killers....you do have the spells, right???

btw, forget comet...its actually a good spell, and very useful, but dragon IGNORES magic resistance.....but can be saved against...

comet i dont think does, and it sure seems to be not nearly as effective, but for hitting a mass of lesser enemies, comet is good as it has much less "blow back" effect....

and dragon is very fun on orcs, as it kinda strips them naked...their bodies are blown all over the map, but their loot is right where they were standing, so it killed them instantly, and blew away the bodies...giggle...

Dragon is great with alacrity and time stop, triple dragon breath equals nuking an area just because you can. But for the first HLA slot (you'll get many more) I'd choose planetar, it frees your cleric from memorizing everyday work spells, comes with tons of offensive spells and will always deal it's amount of damge to the enemy. Planetar is a flexible choice, use it offensive or defensive and it lasts for several rounds.

If you're solo: Get Planetar! If you have the Robe of Vecna: Get Improved Alacrity! Otherwise it's a toss-up between those two and Dragon's Breath.

What if you are a solo and have the robe of vecna? What you recommend?

Planetar. Fighter and cleric in one. Who needs a party?

The point is that Improved Alacrity by itself accomplishes nothing, you have to use it in a combo (ie with Time Stop or with... "some other spell", at the very least!) to be effective.
So Summon Planetar is a wiser choice for a soloer... If you can summon a party of Planetars (through various cloning cheese) you are no more... exactly ... "soloing" :)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

If you ahev one though it would still be considered as soloing IMO as the mage summoned the planetar
