Can a new multi-class be made

Post by Screaming Johny »

I have been looking around at all the great kits that have been made, but haven't seen the one thing I would really love: A multi-class druid/theif.

When playing PnP in the 80's one of my friends played one of these and it worked well. They have similar armor & weapons restrictions (most druid weapons are suitable for backstab), and a thief has no problem with a True N alignment. It makes for a well balanced combo that isn't super-powered. You can even play a little robin-hood: "I search for balance, so I rob from the rich and give to the poor. Err.. Did I mention I was poor?"

If anyone has any clues on how to accomplish this, or where I could find it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

nope, fraid not, you see a druid fighter multiclass is allowed, but no other druid anything....

now i thought a cleric thief with druid spells might work, but when i opened up sk, the only allowed combos with druids are fighter druid and cleric ranger....

and the only legal thief combinations are thief fighter and thief mage....

you have to get directly into kit hacking, and thats just something i dont know how to do....me sk guru, not near infinity guru.....

how about a fighter shapeshifter with backstab capability? i can show you how to make that....use sanctuary to get in real close, then shapeshift to greater werewolf, and backstab....

Ideas... (mumbling)

*Maybe* something similar can be accomplished through a careful mix of dualling and SKing.

Also, we should try to look into halforc, gnome and halfling races. They have some odd thief/something combos allowed, that other races haven't.

I'd have to check...
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Thanks for all the replies. Theif/Cleric is allowed, but I'm not sure to what races. I understand that Bioware couldn't put every possible combo into the game, but a Druid/Theif (dual or multi) to me just makes sense. Not to mention it is a good way to spruce up the Druid, which I personally don't like as a class. Now a druid with backstab, traps & locks abilities, that could be fun.

I'm not willing to look into infinity over this though. Thanks for the replies.

you sure thief cleric is allowed in the game??? i dont recall seing that as one of the legal dual and multi classes...let me look again...

a thief cleric can easily become a thief druid, just remove some of the cleric spells and add the corresponding druid spells....try it out...and dont use turn undead...see, its completely possible as long as a thief cleric multi or dual is allowed by the game engine....

heck, you can even make it assassin cleric--->druid...

just dump the specific anti undead spells the cleric kit gives you and replace with druid spells... and turn undead is not that good unless you use the infamous sanctuary turn cheese...

The XP advancement rates of cleric and druid are different. And the spells per level too.

absolutely, but at this point is johnny willing to settle for a functional druid thief, not a true druid thief?

rats, forgot about the elemental protections and immunity to poison....

well, if you really have no problems with cheating, using sk, you can make a standard druid, level him up to the 40 th level, and copy over all the immunities that the druid kit gives you to the cleric thief and thus fake out the protections the kit gives you as the bonus....

a lot of work, and possibly a too strong a character for johnny's tastes, but it could be done...

yep, just checked, cleric thief does exist,,,,whoo...never saw before, but maybe i just was not looking right,,,,,

it could be done, just very very awkward, and ugly.....

not very balanced at all....

Thanks again. And you are right User, I wasn't looking for Uber power, just a balanced character. Even if I did use SK, it would be a lot of work, and could I still use Druid only items & weapons (prior to UAI that is)?

I'll just have to give up on the Druid/Theif.

Thanks again for all the input.

Yup, I made a dwarwen cleric-thief not long ago, yes, I am positive!

Dunno why SK doesn´t allow it, that´s pretty weird.
Anyway, an assasin-druid would be cool!
Is it really possible to do cleric-ranger?
I thought rangers were prohibited to single-class only.

This one I know well. Not only is it possible to make a Cleric/Ranger, it is one of the best characters (if you like power).

You can dw FoA and MoD, or later add the CF hammer. You can still cast spells in Full Plate, and now you get multiple attacks, a fighters THACO, can specialize, & both Druid and Cleric Spells. This combo works well as either multi or dual classed. If you are going to play a cleric, I stongly suggest you try one of these out.

A fighter Cleric is almost as good, but with the Ranger you get 2 free points in dw, and access to Druid & Cleric spells. I have tried this both in Multi-Player, and changing Jaheira to a multi Ranger/Cleric. Both characters rocked!

I thought only gnomes and half-orcs could be multi cleric/thieves.
Cleric thief is a good character IMO. So try that, you might like it.

It's impossible to create a true multi-class kit of any kind, let alone Druid-Thief. You can however create a kit under one class (example Thief) and then give it a script change to a valid multi-class (in this case, Cleric-Thief) and then change the spells around so it will fit the Druid rather then a normal Cleric. In this situation your kit will only follow the Priest XP table and not the druid table.
