Using a character twice?

Post by Taraza »

I'm just about to start playing BG2 and had a question:

Will I be able to
1) Start a character in BG2,
2)Play with multiple NPCs,
3) Start a new BG2 game and import the same character (experience and all) to the new game?

I want to do this because I want to start with as many NPC's as possible, just to check out the quests/dialogues, but eventually, I'll want to drop some of them and create replacements. But I don't want to have to go through all the low levels again.

I thought this was possible in BG1, but don't remember anymore. Thanks for the help.

No you can't do that unless you use other means, the game doesn't allow you to import a BG2 character, only a BG1.

You can however use the CLUAConsole to add experience or Shadowkeeper to do the same thing and give yourself items as well if you want.

You can start a character in BG2, BG1 isn't required to play.

You can play with 5 NPC's at any one time through out the game, well except at the beginning only a few are available at that time but later you can max out your roster if you like.

First post, good to have you aboard! :)

I belive you can start a single player game. Do everything you want to do, then when u want to start all over again, u just copy the savedgame folder to teh muliplayer saves. Export all chars. Start a new multiplayer game, and then move the new save to the single player folder.

I haven't tested this yet though, but it should work, the theory is good.

;) welcome ;)

I believe that there is a button on the character look-up screen that lets you export your player character to the character file, with all XP, items and abilities. Or my mind could just be playing tricks on me.

Thanks for the welcome,

I wasn't looking necessarily for an in-game way to import a BG2 character into a new BG2 game - I had in mind something like moving the character file manually, kind of like Garazdawi mentioned. I vaguely remember doing something like that in BG1.

I had considering using SK like Krimmy mentioned (no idea what CLUA is), except that from what I understand, if I choose to dual class, I need to reset my character to level 0 in order to get all the old abilities or something like that - and then level up from there? -I thought I saw someone post that if you SK your way up, you miss some special level-based abilities.

Anyway, I've been searching these boards for a few days now, and am still trying to catch up. Thanks for the help guys!

If you want to start a new game with a character you had before in another BG 2 game, you can just simply export your "experienced" character and then import him into your new game at the creation screen.
