NPC quests and moving on to Brynnlaw...

Post by Rataxes »

Right now I have Valygar, Keldorn and Jaheira in my party, I've not done either of their specific quests. Will this cause them to leave if I take to long before doing them?

I'm also thinking about moving on to Brynnlaw to pick up Imoen as early as possible. Will the "timers" of those NPC specific quests be postponed until I return to the surface in Chapter 6, or will they keep running. Because I sure don't want to have a conversation with Keldorn about going to see his family while I'm in spellhold.

All of the NPC quests are put on hold when you go to Brynnlaw. They resume when you come back.

If you want to get an early jump on getting Imoen, all of the Chapter 2 quests (Trademeet, Unseeing Eye, Umar Hills, etc.) are still available in Chapter 6 if you haven't completed them.

As far as I can remember, the only NPC quests which are on timers (and you will lose if you don't complete them in the time allotted) are Nalia's and Korgan's. Someone who knows better may want to correct me, but I think all of the other NPC quests are open-ended and not dependent on you completing them in Chapter 2.

As long as you haven't started the quests, there shouldn't be problem...unless: (highlight for some small SPOILERS about the quests)

Say, Jaheira is cursed. She will die if not cured. She will continue to die if you leave for spellhold with out curing her. Also, say you get Korgan's quest...I believe there is a time limit before he will leave the party if you haven't done it. I think he will leave the party, even if you are in chapters 4 and 5.

With Korgan, after you find that the tomb has been looted and you pay a visit to Pimlico's estate, you only have a couple of days to make your way to the roof of the Copper Coronet. He will remind you two times (I think) before the timer runs out and he says something like, "Oh, well. That would have been fun" and the quest ends. I don't think he'll leave your party if you don't finish the quest out.

Nalia, however, is a different story. You can do her quest one of two ways. The first way is to tell her that you will meet her at the D'Arnise Keep and she will open up the map area and wait for you to show up. You can wait until Chapter 6 and it will be okay. However, if she joins your party, you only have something like 10 days to start the quest before she leaves your party. I do not know if the area will stay open if she leaves the party or not.

I also have never tried picking her up and then dropping her to see if the quest remains open to you. It is my opinion that going to the D'Arnise Keep as soon as you can is a good idea because it is a great opportunity to pick up some +3 weapons (Flail of Ages, Elven Court Bow and Frostreaver) early in the game.

One quest that will not be available in chapter 6 is the Renal/Mae'Var one. I usually do this first (after the Circus in Waukeen's) both because it goes away and it is a good source of cash.

Also, you may want to get started on Jaheira's quest before you go to Brynlaw. It usually takes a long time, especially if you are involved in a romance with her.

Someone may know this for sure, but Haer'Daelis was threatening to leave the party if I didn't bring the gem back. He brought it up a couple of times, and then I complied. I haven't tested it to see if he does leave. Does anyone else know?
