A funny fight with Daevoron (possible spoiler)

Post by nephtu »

Fight story follows, please skip if you find them dull

Ok, it's my first time going through BG, with a party of the three duos, with me as Inziladun LE Dwarf Ftr/Cleric. We've cleared the Cloakwood mines uneventfully, but we're pretty much beat - full health, but no heals left, Dynaheir hasn't got a single spell remaining, and the priests have just a few: dispel, silence, hold, animate dead, maybe a couple more.

Anyway, amazingly enough I manage to find and disarm the traps without incident, though we trigger Daevorn aggro on disarming the third. He proceeds to kick our asses pretty handily - to no one's surprise - no buffs, Dynaheir only has the wand of lighting out. Anyway after a couple of tries, I decide before we set up a spell/potion/gear lineup & rest, that I'll just screw around a bit, so here's what I do:

Imoen sneaks through the trap, taking the relatively trivial damage. Daevorn says his little bit, but doesn't do anything except cast mirror image. Imoen scouts out the floor, and returns to the party unharmed. I summon my skeletal pals, and send them in to play with Mr.D while Imoen keeps an eye on things.

I thought he'd toast them shortly, but they might strip some buffs, and it's not like they weeren't dead already. To my huge amazement, they actually do some damage to him, merrily chasing him around his little teleport route. He never even summoned his pets - I don't know if they interrupted the cast, or what. At the end, he's hitting them with his freaking quarterstaff! He does, however, kill them all, but has taken some damage, and is showing no buff effects whatever at the end.

Minsc swaps into leather, and sneaks in to join Imoen. They start beating on him, and as far as I can tell, he never even attempts to cast. The rest of the party follow in, and in very short order, he's doing the dirt dance. If he hadn't been backed into the wall, I think Imoen could have assasinated him solo.

Anyway, I was amazed at the performance of my skinny pals, and just wanted to share it with you all. If you've gotten this far, thanks for your patience in putting up with yet another "There I was, no ****..." story.

Cheers, everyone!
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

hehe, i know, it's a wonderful fight when it goes well - it's just a pity that it doesn't happen that often

I had a similar occurance in IwD2. My druid summoned some bears that got away from me when I retreated from some area-effect spells cast against me. While I waited for them to dissipate, my bears killed the priestess I was fighting. However in this case, the priestess was essential to the plot, and I couldn't continue the game from that point. Some enimies must be scripted to attack party members and ignore fodder, perhaps. I'm glad to hear it worked out for you though.

When I do play with a party I do something similar. I'll disarm the traps, send in some skeletons, and then throw in a Skull Trap or two to finish everything off. I guess it's not that much the same except for the skeletons, but they work great on spellcasters to remove a few buffs and have them exhaust all of their spells on someone other than your party. Good luck with the rest of the game, and don't worry you've got a way to go yet.

Agreed! Although the BG2 skeleton warriors rock as well.

Yeah the guys rock and can take a bit of a beating where summond wardogs fail to do the job.

That and don't you just enjoy the feeling of "Haha I can control the undead!!"

"Got no plague and got no fleas..."
Chorus: "...we drink poison, we steal cheese!"
"Mess with us and you will see..."

"Here we fight and here we'll stay..."
Chorus: "...WE WILL NEVER GO AWAY!"

Well, my fight with Davaeorn was pretty boring. Imoen disarmed the traps. Dynaheir filled the room with horror. Then we just ran into the room and knocked him to the floor... hmm... almost too easy. I was a little disappointed about this fight.

I had the same thing, as a matter of fact upto now( just entering the city of Baldurs Gate) my warriors have no trouble in killing the evil dudes, but then again , BG it is no hack & slash game & I am enjoying myself to the limit.
