I can't beat the Demi-liche
I can't beat the Demi-liche
I have searched this forum far and wide and have yet to find an idea that works to kill the demi-liche. There must be no limit to his spell casting, which is pretty ****in' amazing. What is even more pathetic is that I have sat here for 3 hours trying to kill him. I guess I need to get a life and walk away.

What I did was have Keldorn with Carsomyr and Minsc with Crom Faer and Daystar attack along with a Fire Elemental hit him (the lich) with some pierce magic and use Keldorns dispel magic and he should go down without to much trouble now here comes the easy yes i said easy part conjure and Earth Elemental on the platform right behind the lich when he transforms into Demi Lich hit him with the Ring of the ram which will do about 15 damage he will shoot back to the wall then have Keldorn and the Earth Elemental along with any other members of the party with long range weapons attack and Minsc use Sunray then also attack make sure to also have a couple of Freedom scrolls handy also of course I did this after the underdark so my party was of fairly high level by then hope this helps
Too easy with 2 berzerkers, like i had. No need to use the rare protection from magic, just use the 2 berzerkers enraged one at a time, when one is winded use the other to tank. Just make sure to bring some weapon that can hurt him.
Korgan helps a lot

set some snares where he would appear (about 5-10) and stand next to him with a thief with a master thievery potion used, right when he appears for the first time after you gave him the arms and legs, pickpocket him (you have to be fast so he dont start to talk.
after that his first form should go down from the traps, next have a +4 weapon equipped on someone and use a prot from magic scroll to take out the demilich.
my favourite is to use the helmet from deidre wich allows you to cast simulacrum (sp?) and keep both magic prot scrolls
voila, 2x ring of gaxx and some exp.

Kangaax the demi-lich is sooooo easy if you use something I like to call strategy(a trained monkey could strategize better than you). He does run out of imprisonments and you can't be imprisoned if you are enraged(that retard Minsc and that badass Korgan come to mind).
Also spell immunity:abjuration will make it impossible to imprison the character you cast it upon.
P.S. Don't fight him till chapter six.

Extortionist and trained pain in the ass, at your service.
If you use the right items/strategies you can kill him long before Ch6.
I thought this had gone up in the strategies section, but since I don't see it there I'll re-write it with new observations.
Normal liches including the ones with the golden arms/legs are ridiculously easy if you just use Protection from Undead. However, if you use this with Kangaxx the Lich it results in a bug whereby he never dies so the Demi-Lich never shows up. So, don't do this!
Kill Kangaxx the Lich the same way you would any powerful mage. If you're planning to use Protection from Magic for the Demilich you can activate it now as it should last plenty long enough...unless you want to hit the Twisted Rune with it afterwards which I often do. However, I want to focus this on the Demilich.
The problems with killing the Demilich are two-fold. 1) Damaging him 2) Staying alive against his Imprisonments and Howl of the Demiliches.
Damaging Him:
Kangaxx can be hurt only by weapons of +4 or better enchantment level. Pre-underdark this means: Carsomyr, Sling of Everard, Staff of Magi, Staff of Rynn, Flametongue, and the Mace of Disruption. Daystar works great against normal liches but didn't seem to work on the Demilich for me. Post-underdark you have plenty of options.
He is mostly immune to spells, but powerful summoned creatures can harm him (Fire Elementals, etc) as can Melf's Minute Meteors (count as +5 weapons). He will also take damage from the Ring of the Ram and Thief Traps.
He doesn't have a lot of hp, but most attacks only do a few points of damage and he regenerates pretty quickly (ring) so you need to hit hard and fast.
Stayin' Alive
Although powerful, his attack is very one sided so easy to avoid. From most effective to least.
Slayer: Immune to both spells and can kill the Demilich all in one package. Down side is rep loss and only post-underdark.
Protection from Magic Scrolls: Shields you completely from both his spells and lasts a long time. There are only two, but you can get around that with Project Image or Simulacrum either cast directly, from scroll, or from Vailor's Helm.
Berzerker Enrage: Shorter duration so you have to kill him quickly or have another way of protecting yourself. Multiple berzerkers can tag-team. Does not protect against Demilich Howl, but if you have decent saves you should be ok. Note -- Not Barbarian Rage.
Spell Immunity Abjuration: Same problems as Enrage but can only be cast by a mage on himself. Can be combined with Spell Immunity Necromancy or Death Ward to protect against the Howl.
Wizard Eye: Immune to both spells although it has no attack of its own. If you're killing him from a distance (MMM's, etc) may be usable but risky if you're planning to melee him. Combines well with the Fire Elementals below.
Swarm of Fire Elementals: Using the Staff of Fire you should be able to attack him with Fire Elementals as quickly as he can get rid of them. This provides both offense and defense, but can be tricky to pull off.

Well thanks for all the information. You can tell from my original post (or my mood anyway) that I was a little vexxed. I managed to kill the demi-liche part (which was the real trouble in the first place, didn't have a problem with the regular liche) by having my main character turn into the slayer and distract him while jaheira used the sling of everard on him. no big deal. didn't know that much about the slayer (like imune to imprisonment and such). Thanks for the input all.

Don't you guys talk about 3 hours being a long time! I fought counted that I fought Firkraag some 13 hours when I encountered him the first time. My chars were level 9 or 10 and I really hadn't read the manual that well either, nor this board. So put THAT in your pipe and smoke it
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

I think I've mentioned this before, but it's SOOOOOOOOO much fun to hack a high level evil cleric (hmmmm, Viconia comes to mind) and mind control Kangaxx. You revel in the glory of seeing all his spells and then have him imprison his own a**... The only thing I could wish for would be having midn-control on forever and taking 'ol Kangaxx for a quick journey. I can imagine the fun:
Firkraag: Ah, I see you've come back. Ready to challenge me. How pitiful. Now I'll just...
(Power Word Kill, Finger of Death, Meteor Storm, Gate,.. he's a pile of dragon rubble by now )
