Imp. Twisted Rune...help?..

Post by Indra »

Hello ..
I'm trying to do the Imp. Twisted rune in Chapter2 with me, 15/14 C/M and Jan, 13/14 M/T . The most dangerous guy (gal?) in there is not Shangalar or Leyanne, it's Vaxall...What's with his **@%anti magic ray? I thought spell immunity abjuration was supposed to stop this? Not only does it not stop it, he strips all my protections at one go..and he can even see invisible? Isn't that a Hive Mother innate ability?
Anyway, after that rant, my questions were:

1) Is anti-magic ray a standard component of Imp. Beholders?
2) Does anti-magic ray ignore Shield of Balduran?
3) Does Spell Immunity: Abjuration stop anti-magic ray?
4) Can all Imp. Beholders see invisible?

Oh, any tips on preventing Vaxall cleaning me out would be VERY appreciated..Thanks..

Happy New Year Everyone!..

1) I think Anti Magic Ray is a standard component of all Beholders, not only Imp. Beholders
2) Yes, Anit Magic Ray ignores Shield of Balduran
3) Never tried, but I don't think so
4) don't know ...
Death is unimportant to me ... it's just a minor inconvenience

@Indra:
If you park a character with the Shield of Balduraan near the door the beholder will destroy itself fairly quickly. You must make absolutely sure that it is the first character the beholder sees so it will attack them first.

Hello Indra:

Two magic users? Not impossible!

Kaitsuburi's some thoughts on lich slaying, magic based offers many useful tips on lich slaying (doh), though not specifically twisted rune.

You may also like to do a search on liches on this forum.

Good luck! :D

I got it! ..Thank the gods for Cleric/Mages. I doubt I would have survived this encounter with anyone but a high lvl wizard or a C/M. (and I would have been a lvl19 Wizard by now, but with no time stop... :( ...) Anyway, I cast time stop from limited wish as soon as Shangalar and Leyanne ported in, then ran in and cast harm, harm, Skull trap on Vaxall and Sheyressa. After time stop Vaxall blew up, Sheyressa became a bat (the coward..) and I was left with Shangalar and Leyanne. A lot of Death Fogs, zones of sweet air and cloudkills later, Leyanne died, me and jan grabbed the staff and the eye and got out.
Back in the bridge district (no resting), cast protections, went back in, Death Spelled Shangy's Mord Swords, then finished him in Melee with FOA. He must have cast
Stoneskin 8-9 times...
Baldursgatefan, thank you for the link. However, I'm at no level to cast Time Stop (and we'll take time to get there..a LOT of time..). My strategy is simply to cast Imp. Invis/Mislead, Spell Immunity :D ivination and Spell Immunity:Abjuration, cast Death fog, Kill summons and watch lich die.
BTW, I'm in the unseeing eye right now and the Beholders there cannot see invisible. But Vaxall can -- looks like he IS more powerful than a normal beholder..

Beholder seeing invisible

It might not be the beholder. I have noticed a few times that if one of the baddies can see the invisible, then thay all can. Did any of the others cast any true seeing spells?

Most of the assasins (with mods installed) can see you as well. Although the game doesn't tell you, I guess they are using the detect illusions theif ability.

Once one of them sees you, I guess they just tell everyone else where you are.

That's it!

@Screaming Johnny,
That's it!. I think you're right. All the Rune assasins (in Twisted Rune & and in Skinner Compound) are using Detect Illusions!. In the twisted rune I cast sanctuary and Spell Immunity: Divination but was still attacked by Vaxall while standing in the middle of some rune assasins. Now I know why...Still, considering you're swamped by assasins as you come in the twisted rune, I don't know any easier method to take
out Vaxall & Sheyressa other than a time stop or a Chain Contingency..Thanks a lot for the suggestion.. :)

according to xyx spell guide, look here....

http://members.chello.nl/~j.vanthull/BG2SR/Home.htm

spell shield will protect your chars from anti magic ray....and it will stay up, unlike spell shield spell striked...

i ended up nuking the entire encounter...each of my 4 mages had a spell triggered sunfire triple up...

each cast spell immunity invocation, and jahiera my only non mage had massive fire resistance, so she healed in fire,....

hasted 2 mages rushed to beholder, and triggered sunfires on self, this killed the beholder and the vampire...mean while, my other two mages trigged near where the lich spawned, and this killed the one with the staff and spell disrupted the lich so improved azuredge did its thing after a spell sequenced triple remove magic,....
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!
