Full installation question
I reinstalled BG2 using one of two drives. Now, it always searches for the CD on that particular drive. As I happen to have that drive hooked to my sound system, I'd rather have it look for the CD on my second CD drive, but there's no INI file to adjust--full installations don't create one. Any ideas on how to deal with this problem, other than a reinstall? I'm leery of a no-CD crack, since that might affect the mods.

This is the first I have heard of this...there should be a .ini file regardless of installation type. This is where it stores your configuration settings. Unfortunately I do not have it installed at the moment so can't double check. IIRC the file was in the main directory and just called "baldur" and on a full installation it would start with something like "Install Type=3" (as opposed to 1 = minimum, 2=recommended)

You were right; I had merely overlooked it. However, it doesn't have an entry for storing the CD drive location. The only file locations mentioned in it are for the hard drive.

The only INI file references to drive appear to be in the Alias section, and they all refer back to my hard drive. I can't seem to locate any reference in that file to my CD-ROM drives, though it persists in recognizing the CD in only one of two. If I'm missing a line that you can suggest, I'd be most grateful.

Ok, I see what you mean (after checking my full installation .ini file for IWD II)
Hmm...then I am thinking that it may well be a registry entry that looks for CD2 to confirm that it is an authentic copy, in which case I am out of my depth. I have checked every file in my IWD directory and find nothing that directs it to any particular CD drive, sorry that I can't help you any further, Fable.
Avoiding a reinstallation - there is always plan B - rename your CD drives
Seriously, I checked out Bioware's site and the only mention they made regarding multiple CD drives was only to use one of them to install the whole game since using multiple CD drives for the installation apparently confuses the install wizard. The site says nothing about how to alter a root CD drive...

You can set alternate paths if you like.
I changed those manually, all works fine (for some reason my full install never behaves
as a full install, unless I do so...)
I paste my "alias" section, so you can use it as a template (F: is my cd-rom drive)
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=F:\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD2\;F:\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD3\;F:\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD4\;F:\CD4\
CD5:=C:\Games\BGII - SoA\CD5\
To be clearer, you just need the operator ";" to add alternative routes for the engine to search, for each of the game CDs.
Hope that helps
