I need some help ?

Post by Patrick »

I have a charactor thats 6th level bard/7ranger, halfelf, who has been a little modified by the Dale Keeper 2 editor. I am in chapter 4 in the drow circular city and When I try to level up my Charactor to 7th level bard I get this message
"(An assertion failed in Inf ScreenCharactor.cpp at line #3101)"
Then the game total quits on me brings me back to the desk top.
I tried to reload the game and when I level up in ranger in stead, It is just fine. This kind of sucks because I would really like to level up my bard. Any help would be apprestiated
Thanks Game Banshee rules for the glory of Amn

Hi Pat:

What kind of modification did you do on the bard? Did you add items in the inventory, change stats or abilities?

I tried out the beta dale keeper when I was playing it a few months ago; the same thing happened to me. What I did was to revert to an earlier save, which saved the day for me :) I am not sure if dale keeper is still in beta, if it is, I am afraid that is your only recourse.

I did make some modification to stats, abilities, and spells. The thing is that since I have edited my bard she has gone up two levels in ranger wich is her favored class. I just recently leveled up the bard and it does not work. All of my other charactors go up just fine. What does the beta have to do with it? I can't really go back to an old save. Is there any way to salavage my bard. Any one with advice would be greatly helpful.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

Ok, maybe there is a way out. If you still have an early Autosave, what you can do is to compare the edited bard with the unedited one and reset the changes to the original. If you can remember what you have changed, so much the better.

If that fails, I am afraid you may want to kick out this bard and make a new one in the existing game by using character arbitration. That means starting all over again with the xp and stuff, but at least you can move on.

One good tip (which I learned the hard way :) ) is to keep old saves long enough until I am sure I don't need them anymore.

You could create a new char, as BGfan suggests, and then use Dalekeeper to modify him/her. You can add xp and levels and so on. It means cheating but so what? A new char would have to start at lvl 1 and he/she would be very ineffective, considering the opposition you get at this point in the game. That would probably diminish the fun you'll have while playing the game and having fun is the only important thing, right? :)
My barbarian turned out to be a little disappointing because I made some bad choices while leveling up, so I modified him, just a bit. Of course I didn't give him 35 strength or something, because that would take a lot of the challenge out of the game.

If you have problems, use dalekeeper simply to bring a character's XP up.

Create them as normal, modify XP to the required level but level up in-game.

Well what I did and I haven't seen any negitive repercussion yet is, just level my bard in dale keeper2 then just use the new save. I should not have any problems this way. As far as I know is that all my other charactor levels will go up levels in the game itself. Thanks folks
