Wildlife

Post by Bloodmist »

Why is there no wildlife, besides hostile creatures, in Morrowind? I came to think of this as i was walking to Pelegiad(?), through the beautiful landscape. It would really create some atmosphere in the game (not that there isn't) but I like walking around and the seeing some animals that aren't hostile all the time... It would be nice...

There are some non-hostile creatures I can think of:

mosquitos
scribs
kwama warriors
netches
guars (not the wild ones)

Yeah, but we need some more common ones. Like in BG and BG2 you always run into squirrels, mooses, pheasants, etc.
It's needed, not that it should be RL creatures, but something similar

Bloodmist, I totally agree. By the way, I think I meant kwama workers in stead of warriors. Some peaceful animals might add to the atmosphere. While thinking about it, wouldn't it be nice if you had herds of guar that would stampede if you get to near? Or well camouflaged poisonous snakes that bite if you step on them. It is things like that that add the the realism of a fictive world. But then there are lots of things amiss in this respect.. why are there no children, for example? Or why is everybody standing up, never sitting or lying? Why do people stay at the same place for months? Why is it that I don't have to drink or eat (allright, that is an obvious one, up till now, no RPG ever has implemented going to the toilet). How is it that I can carry 127 bottles, 6 swords, two shields, 58 keys and a lot of other things without a backpack? Why can't you buy a pack guar?

The answer to those questions is that to make a game more realistic it would cost too much developing time. As programming techniques and computer hardware advance, games will get more realistic. Especially RPG's because of the need for the player to immerse him/herself in the world of the game. But Morrowind is the state of the art at this moment. and I think we will have to live with it. At the same time, will can greedily look forward to all the fantastic games of the future.

Horse, a horse, a stronghold for a horse! Anyway getting riding implemented to game would be (to me) a major breakthrough.
There are motorcycles in games, why not horses? Click use to saddle pack, and get normal container inventory. Click saddle and get mount option. And perhaps a quick key for quick vaulting. Forward key, normal walking. With running gallop. Strafe would turn the horse, walking backwards would first halt horse, then slowly walk it back, depending of the training. Rider could turn by the mouse. With the normal restriction of the waist movement.
And day rhytm for common, and not so common people. Sleeping, eating, working on office/fields, getting into tavern and drinking. Those would bring the game even more alive.
Weaponswise I miss throwing/single handed spears, and throwing axes. Playing Nord, it would help make it more lifelike. Typical warrioe gear, spear or two, shield, sword or axe, charging towards my enemy...oh my. Ehrm....right. Those are the things I´d like to see in future. :D

I completely agree with mordorman, but you can go into the editer and change the fight rating of the creatures to make them more realistid. :)

On the subject of editing, did you know you can edit a message after you have posted it? It's great for correcting typing mistakes.

Morrowind vs Daggerfall

Yes! I miss my horse and horse/cart from Daggerfall. Granted, the graphics in Morrowind and the game play are way superior than Daggerfall, even the dungeons are more realistic, but ....I want my cart back! Also, the walk function in Morrowind is way too slow. Raising athlectic is easy since I can't stand to walk anywhere....but it also drains fatigue so much (even at high levels) that even a little scrub or rat can be a major pain when they attack. I also miss the LARGE inventory screen. The icons are soooooo tiny, it's difficult to recognize what they are when you're new and just starting out. Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Love the game, anyway. Happy Gaming. E

There are mods for everything you folks are talking about.

Wildlife? Everything from butterflies to trout.

Horses? Well, okay, no horses.... put pack guars, magic carpets, gondolas and other means of conveyance.

Check the mod sites. If something in Morrowind bothers you, odds are it's bothered someone else enough that they've made a mod to address it.

I can't recall which cave it was, but somewhere along the line I killed 2 bandits and left their bodies there to rot. When I came back in a few weeks, they had flies buzzing all around them . . . I too would give my kingdom for a horse. I feel very silly using public conveyance being who I am and how rich I am and how hauty I am and how much of a dandy I am . . .
