A reflection on romances' difficulty (just wanting to chat)

Post by serjeLeBlade »

Solaufein, Kelsey
Rating: ridicoulosly easy.

Come on, it's not you romancing those guys... It's them romancing you!
Some fighting involved, but they are so powerful that they can nearly handle it by themselves.

Aerie, Anomen
Rating: a little more difficult...

Ok, they like you. But the point is... do you really like them?
(Or better, are you really willing to bear with them?) :D

Jaheira, Viconia
Rating: a little hard.

Those gals like to treat you bad... And (ouch!) you have to fight their damn ... "former employers" too! :D

Tashia, Imoen
Rating: hard!

It's not that they don't like you...
Simply put, they don't want to be romancend! :D :p
Heh.
My favourite ones so far, anyway.

Your opinions?
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Solafein, Kelsey, Anomen
Sorry, I dont have a real opinion about these 3, since I dont romance males (being male myself and all....) But I do know that Kelsey has alot (great) dialogs

Aerie
Shes pretty easy too romance, just say the nicest things over and over. IMO shes a bit too winy, altough she will be a great NPC after a while

Viconia
A bit too bossy, after a while you get the feeling she cant be nice and will remain evil to the core. Of course that is not a problem for people who play evil parties, but that's simply not my playing style. Timer is IMO also pretty imporatant for this romance (doing the underdark early is not wise...)

Jaheira
Great romance option. In the beginning a bit bossy, but later on u really start to get along with her. For the NPC's which were allready in the game, I should say that she is the best option.

Imoen
Sorry.....I dont romance sisters....

Tashia
She IS the best romance option. She has the best dialog, isnt too winy or too bossy. And she doesnt give u the idea shes ure mother, like Jaheira gives u in the beginning. Plus shes the funniest NPC and gives u (well at least me) more the idea that shes the most compatible qua age.

I've never actually had the patience to romance any of them. Am I missing much?

If u really like the dialogs in BG SoA/ToB...then I'd say: Yes you are missing much.

Although Fable surely knows how too keep the fantasy in the game by saying that the dialogs have been written by a 400 pound man.... :( :D

immie is by far the hardest to romance, there are actually little booby traps built in to the mod to make it rediculously easy to really bugger it up, and it totally requires sk to keep track of the imoenromance global...

tashia i did not find that hard at all, mostly cause she is sensable and nice, and much like the aerie romance, just be nice and funny to her and you should be ok...

fortunately for the immie romance, i am and was very active in the community, and i am in the readme....(preen, preen....hehhehehehhe)

but by far the most interesting are the hard ones...

now ive heard rowan, juna, and edwin will all be fairly hard to do, edwin will come with inlaws....

rowan will have optional evil evil path, and juna is for evil parties only,,,,so it will be quite hard to choose the right responses unless you are into roleplaying evil....
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

On the contrary. Viccy's romance is very well suited to good-aligned parties.

Solaufein is indeed "easy" in that sense, because Wes doesn't really believe that there should be tricks in the form of slips of the tongue, forced conflicts, etc. to sour the works.

As for Kelsey... well, chalk that up to design. He was meant to be romanced. :)

Aerie's romance is very very straightforward. I am fond of saying that if you've ever had a 16 year old girlfriend, it should be fairly apparent what the "right things to say" are.

On the other hand, maneuvering through the Aerie/HD conflict is actually a bit on the tricky side.

"Winning" the last LT in the SOA Anomen romance, particularly if Anomen is CN, is actually not easy, but yes, the rest of the time you can mostly just nod and be vaguely supportive and it's fine.

Bugs aside, romancing Jaheira is actually not that hard. Just bite your tongue and DON'T say the smartass things when it really counts. :)

And Vicky... well, you just have to believe that there's something beneath that sexpot exterior, or the game eventually ends.

I said that romancing Tashia was "hard" because of the general feeling she gives you the first time you meet her (maybe after several games, you get used to it, but now I'm playing with her for the first time).

I mean, she doensn't even want to join your party!
(Do you feel at ease spending your heroic time in taverns bothering poor pretty girls that only ask to be left alone?) ;)
Heh.

And then now, after I saved her life *just* one time, "flirting" with her does not even deserve to be called like so imho....
Come on, all you can do is to smile at her! (If you don't want to get into trouble I mean)

Even pre-commitment (flirtpack) Aerie is "hotter"... she can occasionally stand a kiss on the cheek at least ;)

Anyway, as I said, I like it. This makes Tashia all the more a realistic character.

Indeed. Given Tashia's reluctance to be in the party in the first place, her rather odd handling of the bandit scenario, and the way she runs off, I have a hard time agreeing that she's "sensible."
