What RPG has this?

Post by Skeelo »

I like NWN but it annoys me because everything is separated into boards. I like the free and open worlds, the ones where you could walk from one end of the world to the other without waiting for one screen to have to load. Ultima was like this, are there any games like this now? And especially with some deep dark woods! :D

You should try Gothic, there is hardly any loading what so ever. I think there are two load points in one chapter. Great stuff. Good game too, it is a little difficult to start off with but pesevere and there is a great game there.

The problem is the huge size of areas - and design size. Limiting the amount and size of areas reduces the cost of media for writing on. UO and the like stored their areas on their own servers, and could afford to have HUGE areas stored in one place.

As to your question, I have no idea to be frank. I haven't seen any like it recently...

Yes, whilst we're on the subject, I really enjoyed playing BGII and then played Morrowind, which I didn't enjoy quite so much.

Given those facts, what other games might I like, do you think?

If you're into deep mystically exciting conversational stuff, you should try Planescape: Torment. An absolutely brilliant game stuffed with dialogue and places where it's required that you actually think! Try it out. It's very cheap, and it's made by Black Isle ;)

Otherwise, you could try Baldur's Gate. The first one, very exciting and free.

Thanks but I'm not sure if BG will play on my computer as I have WindowsXP. Most things don't.

Hrm...once youve played through BG2, and never played BG1, BG1 looks sort of.....well.....mediocre. It really doesnt have that much thrill attached to it...
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

Sure it will... I think. No harm in trying, as long as you've got you drivers and your patches up to date

@Tybaltus, you're very right. But when you consider when it was made it's very good indeed. I played BG2 first and I still enjoyed BG incredibly.

Most non-dos games will work with XP even if they are only 95/98/ME compatible, go into My Computer, explore the CD, you'll find a tab called compatibility, if you change the settings to win98 it will install and work, well a few games have worked for me using this method.

I'm definitely with Bloodmist on this. Give a thought to Planescape: Torment. Best story-in-an-RPG that I've ever come across, and a great deal of depth.

A case of deja vu?? I find myself in the same situation after having played BG2, IWD2 and then Morrowind. Morrowind just isn't... BG2. :(

PS:T is definitely a must-try if you haven't played it yet. If you want a refreshing change, why not get out of the RPG genre entirely and play something else? I am currently having a second-wind, in the gaming sense, playing Mafia and RTCW with my nephew. If you like Action games, I have heard No One Lives Forever 2 is a great game too.

I run it on XP, so it should work :)

Well, maybe BG1 doesn't have all the nice improvements of BG2, but it's still a very long and immersive game.

I enjoyed it more than BG2. BG2 is too short IMHO.

You can never get enough of a great game like that one. But it had to end somewhere :(

Thank God for the ability to replay it! (or thank Black Isle, really) :D

Agreed. When I was nearing the end of both games I felt sad and disappointed. Disappointed coz I wouldn't be able to develop my characters any more.

I bought the expansion for BG2, but got even more disappointed beacuse it's too short too. :(

I'm wondering how those games compare to NWN.

I like long RPGs, that is the reason why I haven't got DS, I have heard it's kinda short.

Never tried Dungeon Siege and I was majorly dissapointed by NWN. So much potential and promise, and such a medicore outcome.

You should try the demo, I think there's one somewhere on Bioware's site. Just to get a feel of it.
You could have a diffirent opinion than me. :)

Dungeon Siege is fun, but it's more like Diablo than BG. The eye candy is great, but the best part IMO is the seamless transitions to new areas of the map. There is literally no load time for entering a new area.

I'll get the demo as soon as I have the broadband installed. A couple of weeks or so.

I'm deciding between NWN and Morrowind.

Can't say I cared much for Dungeon Siege. It's a beautiful looking game, but it feels like an unimaginative Diablo x 4: endless monsters on any quest or journey. It's as if the devs thought everybody wanted that; and maybe some do. But I like quests that end, occasionally. And I hated having to backtrack a loooong way to visit outposts and towns with my loot, periodically (despite the presence of pack mules). This one lasted about four days on my computer.

Ugh!

If DS is another Diablo copycat then I don't want it.

The gameplay in those games gets old very quickly.
